Défendre et diffuser nos
richesses culturelles
Créé en 1997 par Talike Gellé, TIHAREA est un groupe
a cappella composé de trois charmantes Malgaches
originaires de la Région Androy. TIHAREA signifie « la
richesse ». Chants en Antandroy, habits traditionnels,
pieds nus, coiffure Dokodoko et danses originales font
l’authenticité de ce trio de sœurs. Lauréat de plusieurs
concours internationaux (Kleurrijk talent en 1998,
Afrikafestival Award et Schlosse Mamling en 2015…),
le groupe ne cesse d’évoluer. TIHAREA se reproduira au
Festival ARKHE à Bussigny en Suisse le 25 mai prochain,
puis au Serenade 2018, au Kennedy Center à Washigton
D.C - États-Unis en juin. Avant ces dates et ces concerts
prestigieux, les membres ont répondu à nos questions.

our cultural riches
Created in 1997 by Talike Gellé, TIHAREA is an acapella
group of three charming Malagasy originating from
the Androy Region. TIHAREA means "wealth". Songs
in Antandroy, traditional clothes, barefoot, Dokodoko
hairstyle and original dances make the authenticity
of this trio of sisters. Winner of several international
competitions (Kleurrijk Talent in 1998, Afrikafestival
Award and Schlosse Mamling in 2015 ...), the group
continues to evolve. TIHAREA will reoccur at the ARKHE
Festival in Bussigny, Switzerland on May 25th, and then
at Serenade 2018, at the Kennedy Centre in Washington
D.C - USA in June. Before these dates and these prestigious
concerts, the members answered our questions.
Prime Media : Racontez-nous les débuts de TIHAREA…
Tiharea : Sous l’influence du Beko et du Talily (conte), Talike
compose son propre répertoire à 13 ans et forme son premier
groupe. Sa forte expérience musicale a facilité la naissance
de TIHAREA en Belgique en 1997. Actuellement, on compte
trois albums : Tiharea (2000), Ry Ampela (2003) et Volambita
(2009).
Prime Media : Tell us the beginnings of TIHAREA ...
Tiharea : Under the influence of Beko and Talily (storytelling),
Talike composes his own repertoire at age 13 and forms his
first band. His strong musical experience facilitated the birth
of TIHAREA in Belgium in 1997. Currently, there are three
albums: Tiharea (2000), Ry Ampela (2003) and Volambita (2009).
Prime Media : Que cherchez vous à raconter à travers vos
chansons ?
Tiharea : Nos chants parlent de la vie quotidienne, des femmes
et des enfants, de l'éducation, d’amour et de la tolérance.
Nous nous inspirons de la tradition dans ce qu’elle a de plus
magique et faisons référence au culte des ancêtres pour
décrire la société malgache.
Prime Media : What do you want to tell through your music?
Tiharea : Our songs speak about everyday life, women and
children, education, love and tolerance. We draw inspiration
from tradition in what is most magical and refer to ancestor
worship in order to describe Malagasy society.
Prime Media : Un message à faire passer aux artistes en herbe?
Tiharea : Soyez curieux, apprenez l'histoire, la culture et la
tradition. Soyez aussi ouverts d'esprit, ne vous limitez pas à un
Foko. Soyez fiers de notre richesse culturelle et de notre langue
en la maîtrisant.Ne vous contentez pas de la reproduction,
faites plutôt des recherches et essayez d’innover en puisant
dans notre richesse musicale commune. Travaillez et
persévérez et un dernier conseil : faites-vous plaisir !
Prime : A message to pass on to budding artists?
Tiharea : Be curious, learn about history, culture and tradition.
Be open minded also, do not limit yourself to one Foko (tribe).
Be proud of our cultural wealth and our language by mastering
it.Do not just copy, do some research and try to innovate
by tapping into our common musical richness. Work and
persevere and one last tip: enjoy yourself!
