THE LAST NEIGH
As the nights are getting cooler we pray for the African Horse
Sickness season to pass. Within the last 2 weeks, there have
been 3 fatalities in the surrounding area of our stables. That
being said, welcome to the latest edition of our CEC newsletter. We
are always aiming to keep you up to date with the latest information
and happenings in our horsey world.
Lot of new faces and happenings at CEC – we aim to keep everyone
informed via our newsletter.
If you have any interesting stories, snippets or anything else to share
with regards to your riding experience or horse at CEC – Please email

Welcome to our latest little rider joining the ranks of CEC: Ferdi
Liddle.
Welcome to our new assistant Stable Manager and instructor Ulrike
Erasmus who will be helping out Melindi, Nicolene and Corinne out
with the management duties of CEC.
We also welcomed Cherry’s Best AKA ‘Cherry’ back to CEC during
March 2018 and are extremely pleased to announce that Cherry
is now proudly owned by The Smit Family who adopted him for
Michaela to ride and love. Congratulations guys, we are sure you are
going to have a lot of fun, and make great memories together.
We are also welcoming the fabulous SANESA superstar Boerperd
Gelding ‘Hidalgo’ to our yard. Hidalgo is available for sale and more

Jumping Shows and
Other Events
We had to postpone our CEC training
show jumping show from 21 April to 26
May 2018. The huge amounts of rain we
received during the month of March and
April influenced the going in our arenas
and we have started resurfacing our
riding areas.
We kindly ask all our CEC riders who
will be competing at the show to wear
their CEC club shirts. (Available at the
office @ R450 per shirt)

Horse-pital
• Cheval went to
Onderstepoort Equine
hospital on 10 April
2018 for his follow up
scope after having the
Ethmoid heamatoma
removed during March.
3 bone fragments were
removed from his nasal
cavity which were still
present after his previous
surgery but the Ethmoid
heamatoma was still clear
with no signs of re-growth
which is FANTASTIC
news!! Cheval has to go for
check-ups every 6 months
from April to ensure the
Ethmoid heamatoma does
not return.
• River was seen on different
occasions by veterinarian
Tanya Hornschuh with
regards to a cough and
nasal discharge that
became present after his
castration. Swabs were
taken for cultures, and
River put on antibiotic
treatment. Currently
his cough is improving
with no signs of nasal
discharge.
• Pierrot had billary
fever which was treated
successfully.
• Fortune had a fever
during end of March 2018
which was treated by our
veterinarian Dr. Heinrich
Davies. Vet suspected
a virus, and Fortune is
now in fine health again.
He was also Backed
Successfully on Friday 20
April 2018 by David Reed
and now ridden Schooled
work will continue with
the help of our fabulous
instructors.
• Chips and Angelicat also
had slight fevers during
April. We suspect a virus
doing the rounds at the
stables, but both horses
did NOT need treatment
by a veterinarian and both
were carefully managed
by our Super Stable
Manager Charlene.
• All horses and ponies
with the exception of
Cheval, River, Cherry and
Fortune were vaccinated
for West Nile Virus
(WNV) on Saturday
7 April 2018. Cheval,
Cherry and Fortune will
be vaccinated on late
Afternoon of Wednesday
25 of April 2018 with the
first inoculation for WNV.
River will be vaccinated
as soon as the Veterinarian
thinks his cough is cleared
up and he is healthy in
order to build anti-bodies
for WNV.
• All horses and ponies were
dewormed on Monday 23
April 2018.
• Splsh was treated for his
itchy skin with Cortizone
by Veterinarian Dr. Tanya
Hornshcuh.
• VERY IMPORTANT
NOTICE TO ALL
HORSE OWNERS: the
Booster of the WNV
will be inoculated on the
afternoon of Saturday 19
May 2018 after all riding
lessons for the day is over.
This gives the horses
a chance to have a rest
period of at least 36 hours
before commencing work.
OWNERS, PLEASE
don’t come and ride your
horse on Sunday 20 May
2018 as the inoculation
might give them a fever
reaction due to them
building anti-bodies. The
fee for the booster and
veterinarian will reflect on
your invoice.
• ALL horses and ponies
are also due for their
Vitamin B Complex
booster during May 2018.
Melindi has arranged
with the veterinarian to
do it on the same day
(Saturday 19 May 2018)
as receiving the West Nile
Virus Booster. This way
we will save on the ‘extra’
vet fees and the horses
get some vitamins to
help them cope with the
WNV vaccine as well
as the season change.
The fee for the Vitamin
B booster will reflect on
your invoice.
• CLIENTS: PLEASE
ENSURE you have
the following items
CLEARLY marked
with your horse’s
name in your horses’
box at their stable or
paddock as we will not
be able to properly treat
minor wounds, tick
infestations or mange
without the following:
Tick Grease, Iceman/
deep ice/arnica ice,
Wound aerosol (Purple
spray), Wound ointment
(dermavet/agrisulph),
hoof and sole hardener,
Stockholm tar, milking
cream, shampoo treatment
for mange (F10).
• Horses who need to be
treated for mange, ticks,
minor wounds or hoof
problems without the
above items available in
their horses’ box will be
treated with CEC products
and clients charged with
R150 per treatment –
please remember that the
ONUS is on the owner
of the horse to ensure we
have the necessary items
to look after your horses’
well-being.

Flash
• Please remember that
we have Tea and coffee
available in the clubhouse
at no charge. Moms, dads
and grandparents – feel free
to help yourselves!
• Maintenance on the main
thatch roof at the clubhouse
was completed on Monday
2 April 2018.
• During the month of May
2018 maintenance is
scheduled for the thatch
roof next to the jumping
arena.
• We have started resurfacing
the main jumping arena
with washed river sand as
well as the dressage arena.
We still need to have 6
loads of 5 cubic metres
transported into the show
jumping arena and 2 loads
into the dressage arena for
the remainder of 2018 but
at the moment the going
is great again after all the
rain!
• We apologise for the
inconvenience with the
gate motor at the main gate
giving us problems lately.
We have been working
on the problem and
HOPEFULLY it is fixed this
time round. THANK YOU
to Danie Prinsloo who has
been helping us girls out on
a Friday Afternoon with the
gate motor. You are always
willing to assist and we
cannot thank you enough
for what this means for us.
• Loose bricks in and around
the stable yard and arenas
are being repaired as we go.
Maintenance never stops!
We are always aiming to
keep the yard safe, clean
and tidy for the well-being
of all the horses and our
clients.
• During May we will tackle
the road leading in from the
main gate to the stable area
to improve the going for
our valued clients.
• New water points at key
areas of the paddocks will
be installed during June
2018.
• Our rental horsebox was
serviced during the month
of April 2018.
• With the third SANESA
school show around the
corner, please book your
instructor WELL IN
ADVANCE if you require
instructor assistance at the
show. The cost per rider
for instructor assistance is
R400 per day for a Pretoria
show venue. If the venue is
in JHB the cost per rider is
R500 per day. Nicolene and
Corinne are our resident
instructor who will be
accompanying students to
shows.
• We are continually fixing up
broken paddock poles as we
go, re-painting of paddocks
with Carbolineum has been
started, PLEASE Do not
put your horse in a paddock
if the gate is closed and
the water bucket is turned
upside-down as this means
the paddock is still wet and
the Carbolineum product
burns the horses’ skin.
• Please remember that there
is ALWAYS a rider on
horseback when entering
the main gate which gives
access to the premises of
CEC. Please stick to the
speed limit of 40 km/h and
please be on the lookout
for riders on horseback
who might be riding
around on the farm as well
as our famous ‘bokkies’.

Note To Stabling &
Riding Clients
• We will start blanketing the horses
with their winter blankets during the
first 2 weeks of May 2018. For those
clients who took their horses’ blanket
home after the winter of 2017, please
return it to the stable yard and hand it
in at the office.
• Day sheets will be washed and
repaired at a flat rate fee of R160 per
sheet and stored in the Private Tack
room boxes, ready for the new season.
If you DO NOT want your horses’ fly
sheet washed and / or repaired by us,
please inform MELINDI accordingly
so she can remove the item from your
invoice. PLEASE come and collect
your fly / day sheet from CEC to
have it washed and repaired yourself.
• We have CEC club shirts available in
the office at R450 per shirt.
• If we do not have your size in stock,
we will order it and have it readily
available within 2 weeks. Please take
note that CEC riders who partake at
our CEC shows and other training
shows are required to wear our CEC
club shirts
• Please CONFIRM with your relevant
instructor if they will be available for
riding lessons during the upcoming
public holidays. For those that will
miss riding lessons, please arrange
your catch-up lessons with your
instructor.
• Please keep our stable yard clean!
There are dustbins set up strategically
at different areas of the stable yard for
this purpose. Smokers, also please
remember to throw away cigarette
butts as we have some of our old
ponies grazing around the stable yard
area and don’t want them to consume
these.
• Melindi’s Students please take note:
Melindi will not be available for
riding lessons from 1 – 13 May 2018
as she will be attending Badminton
Horse Trials in the UK as a spectator.
She has already started catching up
lessons in advance that will be missed.
• TAKE NOTE: Melindi will be
posting a LOT OF PHOTOS from the
Badminton Horse trials on our CEC
Chat group.
• NO rider is allowed to jump fences
in the cross country area without
an instructor present and the rider
wearing a body protector. Remember
guys that these jumps are SOLID, and
should only be attempted under the
watchful eye of one of our instructors.
If you want to book a cross country
jumping lesson, come chat to us at the
office so we can book you in.
• PLEASE TAKE NOTE: IF
PAYMENT WITH REGARDS TO
YOUR STABLING AND / OR
RIDING LESSONS ARE NOT PAID
BY THE 3RD DAY OF EACH NEW
MONTH – a late payment penalty of
R150 will take effect and be billed
with your next invoice.
• If you are unable to make your
payment by the 3rd day of the new
month after receiving your invoice,
PLEASE contact Melindi @ 084 760
8450 in order to arrange payment
procedure BEFORE the 3rd of each
new month.
• Please remember that NO RIDER
is allowed on horseback at CEC
WITHOUT wearing a RIDING
HELMET! Please guys, this is for
your own safety and most horserelated
injuries are head injuries.
Always better to be safe than sorry.
• Riders having Lessons at Countryside
Equestrian Centre – Please remember
that we work on a 24 hour notice
period for Cancellation of Lessons. It
has happened a few times where riders
don’t show up for their scheduled
riding lesson where the horse / pony
has been saddled up and is ready to
work. In these events our instructors
WILL NOT catch up the riding lesson
missed unless in the event of an
EMERGENCY. Our 24 hour notice
period enables the instructor to then
book in another student who might
have missed a lesson and thus the
instructors’ time is not wasted as ALL
our instructors work on a commission
basis with regards to lessons given.
• Clients: Please remember if you
would like to discontinue riding
lessons or stabling at CEC we need
to receive one CALENDER months’
notice / payment in advance.

The Last
We are all saying a very sad and teary
goodbye to Charlene who has been our
Stable Manager the past few years and
has decided to move on and broaden her
horizon.
Charlene, you have been great and all
of us and the horses will miss you very
much.
We wish you the very best for your
future endeavours and hope to see you
visit CEC on many occasions!
Charlene will be available at CEC until
11 MAY 2018.
Ulrike will be taking over the lessons
given by Charlene starting on 21 May
2018.
