T S - M 2018 — V. 42, N. 9 Golf In 2018, we will play on Mondays at different courses around Guelph, Cambridge and Kitchener/Waterloo from the first week in May to the last Monday of September. Traditionally we have over 300 members split into 3 golf groups (see below). For information and/or to register for golf, do so at the Evergreen front desk starting in February 2018. We almost have 300 members and are almost full in our 3 Golf Divisions, so apply now if you want to be included. The executive of the Evergreen Golf Club is looking for new members to help organize the golf. If you are interested, contact Ted Pritchard at 519- 826-6121 or Ken Hills at 519- 836- 8414. The co-ordinators for 2018 are 18 Hole A Group, Wayne Vokey, 18 Hole B Group, George Hughes, and 9 Hole Group, David Halfpenny. The cost to join the Evergreen Golf Club for the 2018 season is $10.00 plus HST. Hearing Improvement The Hearing Improvement Committee of Guelph has the objective of helping fellow citizens with hearing loss by: co-operating with and assisting professionals who deal with it; promoting hearing accessibility within our own community; holding regular information sessions to encourage greater understanding of the problem and what is available to help it. We meet the first Wednesday of each month from October through May from 2-3:30 pm. We discuss problems affecting those with hearing loss and try to find solutions. Our meetings also have a social component. For further information, all Marianne at 519-822-3946. Line Dancing Come dance with us all year long. Mondays: Beginners 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Intermediate: 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Thursdays: 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (Basic line dance experience recommended for this class.) Your first three visits are free, after which the fee is $1.50 per visit. Everyone Welcome Into Focus Photography Club Our photography club got into the spirit of the season last month. Our theme was spring scenery and the images of new growth will be hanging in the Evergreen restaurant throughout May. Our first photographic challenge was so much fun that we gave our members two more. One is a scavenger hunt in which we take a photo of items on a list of 20 things. We have until the middle of June to take the photos. The second was to explore the techniques around depth of field. We had a deadline of April 27 to complete this challenge. Look for the results of the challenge on our Smug Mug internet page. On April 16, our monthly field trip took us to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton. We are a friendly group of amateur photographers with equipment ranging from mobile phones and point-and -shoot cameras to fancy DSLR models. We share a common interest in photography as a hobby and we learn from each other. New members are always welcome. Pickleball Pickleball is a sport in which four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports: the dimensions and layout of a badminton court and a net and rules similar to tennis, with a few modifications. This sport is for people of all ages who are looking for some fun, laughter, socialization and exercise. It’s easy to learn, but can be challenging for those with a competitive nature. All levels of skill invited. Pickleball equipment is provided. Shuffleboard Shuffleboard will be holding a Tournament May 2 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. All donations of food would be appreciated. The Evergreen Seniors Centre will be closed from July 2 until August 6 for paving of the parking lot. Shuffleboard will continue in June and August and the fee will be $1.00 per visit. Silvertones The Silvertones Choir, formed nearly 40 years ago, now boasts over 50 members. This mixed group of older adults share their love of singing - songs old and new.
