IMPORTANT NOTICE
Attention all clubs: Because of the building closure from July 2-August 7,
we will have no access for mail or hand-written information from your
clubs. It CAN be sent to us by email (sentinel@gwsa-guelph.ca) which we
access from home, so that we can put your club information in the September
issue.
If you have requirements for score cards, etc., please let us know well before
the closure so that they can be printed.
THE EDITOR’S PAGE by Linda Green
Did you know:
The dog was one of the first animals domesticated by
humans, sometime between 13,000 and 30,000 years
ago.
Dogs have been used by the military for as long as
there have been battles, as scouts, sentries and trackers.
German and Dutch Shepherds, as well as Belgian
Malinois, are the most common breeds employed
in military service.
Studies have shown that dogs can be trained to
sniff out the early stages of certain types of cancers
in humans.
Petting dogs has been proven to lower blood pressure
of dog owners and has the happy benefit of
making the dogs feel soothed, too.
A large breed dog’s heart beats between 60 and
100 times per minute, while a smaller dog’s heart
beats between 100 and 140 times per minute.
A husky’s howl can be heard up to 10 miles away.
Must be fun for the neighbours!
Two Pomeranians and a Pekingese were among the
survivors of the Titanic. They were secreted in their
owners’ lifejackets.
