S ELWYN GETS READY
Selwyn has its own community based
emergency response support and
notification network called Selwyn
Gets Ready. The system allows people
to sign up for free to receive alerts via
text or email in an emergency. This
alert system operates in conjunction
with local volunteer networks who
check on households needing support
and provides assistance if needed or
allows those support people to request
help from Council where required.
Locally Selwyn Gets Ready has been
used to:
• issue tsunami warnings
• provide information and advice
about fires, and alert people when
they need to be prepared to evacuate
• provide information in the aftermath
of earthquakes
• issue weather warnings for strong
winds or snow
• advise people about fire risk and
fire restrictions
• communicate messages from
Selwyn Police to local communities.
To join Selwyn Gets Ready, visit www.
selwyn.getsready.net and click join. If
your household has any special needs
in an emergency, you can also indicate
this on the form so that your local
volunteer community response team
is aware of these.
