The Victorian Hire Car Association has been rebranded to the Commercial Passenger Vehicle Association of Australia CPVAA INDUSTRY REFORMS The uncontrolled release of tens of thousands of new Commercial Passenger Vehicle licences by the Andrews Labor Government in 6 months, is commercially irresponsible, socially harmful and emotionally devastating for an industry already struggling to survive. A devastating 463% increase in taxi and hire cars on the road exacerbating the congestion issues that Melbourne is already struggling to deal with. This number will most certainly increase as the TSC processes further applications. No industry can withstand this irresponsible dumping and oversupply into an already depressed market - this was ironically orchestrated by the TSC! This has led to loss of income, business failures, full time job losses, bankruptcy and extreme emotional stress for thousands of Victorians. This is on top of the precarious financial position Transport Minister Allan left the industry in when she unfairly revoked the taxi and hire car licences without fair compensation, leaving operators with legacy debt. It is morally wrong to encourage new players to keep entering the point-to-point transport market, purchasing vehicles and taking on debt (even with a $52.90 licence) without a fair chance of being able to service those financial obligations. Reforms have been handled without care Minister Allan should acknowledge that these Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry reforms have been handled appallingly by Government. A responsible fair and sympathetic Government would now freeze any new licences for 12 months, so as to allow the industry to re-establish itself. This could go a long way to stop the emotional and financial pain of those who were established players, and also those who have recently attempted to enter the taxi and hire car industry.
