and Remus remains<br />

concerned re the apathy<br />

and red tape that seems to<br />

get in the way of helping<br />

them. There needs to be<br />

new updated legislation<br />

that is enforceable for all<br />

sectors of the community.<br />

Horses are suffering dying and being thrown out to take their<br />

chances on the busy roads. Last month two youngsters were<br />

loose in Aveley. One was killed and two were killed in Tilbury<br />

and we <strong>res</strong>cued a foal recently at a cost of over £1000 to the<br />

Sanctuary for specialist vets with tranquilliser dart equipment.<br />

The Government need to see horse welfare as a bigger priority<br />

and make laws adequate and enforceable and must debate<br />

tethering of horses. It seems awful that in a world where we can<br />

send men to the moon that we can al<strong>low</strong> gregarious sentient<br />

Open Days at the Sanctuary<br />

The first Open Day of the season,<br />

will be Sunday 3 June.<br />

1:00pm - 5:00pm with an entrance fee just<br />

£4 for Adults and £2 for Children<br />

As well as our 200+ animals including horses, ponies, donkeys,<br />

two cows, sheep, goats and cats, we offer a variety of<br />

competitions and games to entertain the whole family, along<br />

with music from Midnite Blu. Ref<strong>res</strong>hments are available all<br />

afternoon including sandwiches and delicious cakes (including<br />

many gluten-free). Plus, we have many stalls selling gifts, books,<br />

bric-a-brac and a great raffle.<br />

Entry is just £4 for adults and £2 for children payable on arrival,<br />

with a discount upon p<strong>res</strong>entation of your membership or<br />

sponsorship card, if relevant.<br />

Please note that the ground can be uneven, subject to the<br />

weather. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet and, if required,<br />

disabled parking is available near to the yard. Dogs are welcome<br />

on a lead. If the weather is very wet the days prior to the event,<br />

then please double check with Remus, either by telephone<br />

(01277 356191) or Facebook, that we will be able to open!<br />

As you can imagine, it takes a lot to organise a public event such<br />
