Series 3. Harry Peterson’s Notes, Clippings and Scrapbooks, 1925-1928. 1 box 20 folders.<br />

This sub series contains the notes, jottings and correspondence that Harry Peterson collected<br />

during Davis’ explorations in<strong>to</strong> the Reed-<strong>Donner</strong> trail. Most <strong>of</strong> the material is undated and<br />

arranged in no specific order. This sub series also contains 15 oversized scrapbooks that<br />

Peterson assembled <strong>to</strong> document Davis’ trip. They contain notes, maps, ephemera,<br />

correspondence and miscellaneous items. The scrapbooks themselves have been moved <strong>to</strong><br />

box 32-7-308 due <strong>to</strong> their size, but scans and digital pho<strong>to</strong>graphs <strong>of</strong> their contents are contained<br />

in this series. Also in this group is a diary in Peterson’s handwriting titled “Last Trip” detailing a<br />

trip from Sacramen<strong>to</strong> <strong>to</strong> Kansas City and back from May 1 <strong>to</strong> September 19, 1928.<br />

Series 4. Charles E. Davis Biographical Material, 1915 <strong>to</strong> 1927 and undated. 1 box, 4<br />

This sub series contains notes, clippings, business cards, personal remembrances, and pho<strong>to</strong>s<br />

regarding the life <strong>of</strong> Charles E. Davis. Most <strong>of</strong> the items in this group describe Davis’ life before<br />

the Reed-<strong>Donner</strong> project and provide information on his activities as a fisherman, explorer, and<br />

naturalist and on his home on Mullet Island in the Sal<strong>to</strong>n Sea. A hand-drawn map <strong>of</strong> the area is<br />

also in this group. Pho<strong>to</strong>s in this sub series show Davis’ Mullet Island home, local wildlife there,<br />

and an oversized pho<strong>to</strong>graph <strong>of</strong> Davis with Harry Peterson taken at Sutter’s Fort in the 1920s.<br />
