Index Card 965 A promiment make recoginized by the early immigrant & explores<br />

as marking the last water place on pass out on the barren desert <strong>of</strong><br />

80 miles <strong>to</strong> Pilot Peak Mt. Near Hastings Pass, out from ? Springs<br />

– Sept. 1927.<br />

Index Card 966 Three cowpinchers who helped Capt. Davis in determining the<br />

where abouts <strong>of</strong> the R-D party wagons <strong>of</strong>f the Silver Zone district.<br />

Silver Zone is from the name <strong>of</strong> a Silver mine on the Nevad side <strong>of</strong><br />

the line, and now applies <strong>to</strong> the section extending <strong>to</strong> the Western<br />

edge and portions <strong>of</strong> th Great Salt Lake Desert. Ranchers (these<br />

men) are from Pilot Peak Springs. 3 <strong>of</strong> thou who helped on the<br />

In the rear is Pilot Peak – The man at the left is pointing <strong>to</strong>wards<br />

Hastings Pass, Parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>Donner</strong> wagons were found near here. This<br />

is right on the edge <strong>of</strong> their ranch.<br />

Index Card 967 Silver Island district. Looking out (east) beyond Silver Island <strong>to</strong><br />

where the Reed-<strong>Donner</strong> <strong>Party</strong> had their trouble. They passed over<br />

80 miles <strong>of</strong> desert waste <strong>to</strong> this point, which is where the Reed<br />

family walked <strong>to</strong> after having <strong>to</strong> abandon their wagons in the<br />

desert. (Sept. 1927)<br />

many emigrants passed.<br />
