presentations from the day. Speaking of which…
It was now time for the next seminar – this
time it was Robert McDonald, Training Manager at
Norbain. This presentation on cyber security
covered the most common issues to be aware of,
and how to protect systems against them.
After this discussion ended it was time to hit
the final area at the Virtual Event, the Networking
Lounge. Here is the place where general
discussions and a poll are hosted along with a live
chat room. It was early in the day when I visited
so there hadn’t been much interaction, however
with so much going on elsewhere it’s unlikely
other visitors moved around the event as swiftly.
With the presentations all starting on the hour
I was able to come out of the show to do some
other work and revisit as and when required.
So what was the final verdict? The Norbain
Virtual Event is certainly something different for
the industry. As Mark Field, Commercial Director
for Norbain SD said: “Although physical
exhibitions and roadshows are still relevant, it’s
becoming increasingly challenging to justify the
time and expense involved for visitors and
suppliers alike. Face to face networking will
always be a part of our strategy, but Virtual Event
allows us to offer a very accessible alternative.”
It certainly is an alternative idea and given the
fact that the event page will remain active after
the day, thus giving visitors long-term access to
the information from the show, it will have the
potential to continue to act as resource point in a
way that a standard ‘physical’ show cannot. All-inall
a most enjoyable visit to a trade show,
although I couldn’t find the bar…
