World Music Village<br />

A celebration of the arts and doing good in the world comes to Portsmouth on<br />

24 - 26 August 2018. The Arms Around The Child charity host this global<br />

showcase of creativity at Victorious Festival, bringing together a diverse array<br />

of people. Poetry, painting, dancing are amongst the activities together with a<br />

great variety of music styles from hip hop to latin and bhangra. It is a<br />

wonderful union of interests and people from across the world and with<br />

different backgrounds, also presenting unheard talent, all in aid of the charity<br />

which helps give children happiness and peace.<br />

World fans can expect a cornucopia of flamboyant, tropical and vibrant sounds<br />

from the four corners of the globe. Saturday promises a serious dub reggae<br />

party with legendary sound system Channel One, as well as a big return from<br />

Swedish hip-hop pioneer Neneh Cherry who had the whole village grooving<br />

back in 2016. Sunday brings the energetic International Sounds of The Turbans<br />

along with Dr.DJ and his Bhangra Bollywood Dance party experience<br />

The World Music Village has partnered with sponsors BIMM as a presenting<br />

sponsor to introduce some of the budding and fresh young talent coming out<br />

of the school. Look out for the bluesy, soulful music of Le Beaux and Tilda<br />

Allie, amongst others.<br />

The World Music Village also hosts The People's Lounge Tent again this year.<br />

The People's Lounge is a cultural collective of artists, musicians, poets and<br />

DJ's. This alternative enclave will display and celebrate Portsmouth's diverse<br />

local talent. Live music, spoken word poetry, visual art, Tai Chi and workshops<br />

will run throughout the weekend.<br />

On Saturday TPL will host a day of hip-hop and urban vibes to explore the<br />

underground elements of Portsmouth's music scene. Get ready to feast on<br />

some of the city’s finest hip-hop with Slick Minded Individuals, Omar Baba, The<br />

Naan Breddaz (acoustic set,) Hang Dai and Kingdome all hitting the Lounge. On<br />

Sunday TPL will present jazz, funk and soul. The Rob Milner Quartet will be<br />

back in the Lounge with a jazz fusion set that will be sure to blow some minds<br />

and raise the spirits. Richard Muscat, Tash Alladin and The Southsea Groove<br />

Collective all return with one of their famous funk sets.<br />

Curated by global charity Arms Around the Child, the World Music Village is an<br />

unmissable fundraising celebration of cultural diversity. It aims to bring<br />

together an eclectic array of international flavours and sounds and<br />

Portsmouth’s homegrown talent to create a fusion of art, beauty and love that<br />

represents the global nature of the city.<br />
