Academic results and/or performance, as well as performance at interview will weigh equally.<br />
The recommendations of the Faculty Admissions Committee for admission will be final.<br />
The closing date for MBChB applications will be 30 September.<br />
Please note that it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the <strong>University</strong> with official<br />
results. No applicants will be processed without results.<br />
Std 9 / Grade 11 : end-of-year results<br />

Registration<br />
All students must register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) at<br />
the beginning of their first year of study. Students will not be allowed to proceed to second<br />
year without HPCSA Registration. Students who resume their professional studies after an<br />
interruption of more than one year are required to renew their registration with the Council.<br />
BACHELOR OF MEDICINE AND BACHELOR OF SURGERY (MBChB)<br />
CURRICULUM<br />
The innovative curriculum employs Problem-Based Learning and Community-Based Education<br />
(PBL & CBE) mode of delivery. There are small group tutorials, laboratory classes, projects,<br />
clinical clerkships, patient presentations, bedside clinical teaching, clinical procedures, grand<br />
round presentations, seminars and a few lectures. The curriculum is student-centred, problembased,<br />
integrated, community-based, has electives and has self-directed learning. There is<br />
early exposure of students to clinical practice, diagnostic disciplines (Chemical Pathology,<br />
Haematology, Radiology) and community-based education.<br />
Programme Organization and Delivery<br />
The medical curriculum is divided into 3 phases as follows:<br />
Phase I,<br />
level I (Phase IA) - 36 weeks<br />
level II (Phase IB) - 39 weeks<br />
Phase II,<br />
level III - 36 weeks<br />
Phase III,<br />
level IV - 44 weeks<br />
level V - 44 weeks<br />
level VI - 44 weeks<br />
Total time dedicated to teaching and learning: 243 weeks.<br />
In addition, the examinations in the MBChB programme are by their nature also learning<br />
opportunities for the student.<br />
