m. Promotion:<br />

For entry into the second year of study, a student must have passed all the courses<br />

prescribed for MBChB 1.<br />

n. Repeating the year:<br />

A student who fails four (4) or less of the courses prescribed for MBChB 1 will be<br />

allowed to repeat the year.<br />

o. Exclusion:<br />

A student who fails more than four (4) or more courses prescribed for MBChB 1 will be<br />

excluded on academic grounds.<br />

MBCHB II - PHASE IB<br />

a. MBChB II courses will be :<br />

• Clinical Skills: This course will be offered throughout the year.<br />

• The following courses will be offered in blocks:<br />

• Neuroscience, Head & Neck, Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Block 3<br />

• Musculoskeletal (including parathyroid) Block 4<br />

• COBES Block 5<br />

• Renal, Body Fluids, Reproductive Block 6<br />

• Cardiorespiratory (including larynx) Block 7<br />

b. Block Duration (approx weeks)<br />

Neuroscience, Head & Neck, Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat 10<br />

Musculoskeletal (including parathyroid) 10<br />

COBES 3<br />

Renal, Body fluids, Reproductive 8<br />

Cardiorespiratory (including larynx) 8<br />

c. Assessment<br />

There will be continuous assessment consisting of Tutorial assessment, Integrated<br />

MEQs practical, seminars and reports.<br />

OSPE and IPA examinations will be held at the end of each block and will be<br />

externalized.<br />

d. Computation of the block marks:<br />

Continuous assessment (60% of the final mark) will be made up of:<br />

Tutorial assessment: 15%<br />

MEQ: 45%<br />

Examination mark (40% of the final mark) will be made up of:<br />

IPA: 20%<br />

OSPE: 20%<br />

e. Mark obtained Action<br />

50% Pass<br />

45 – 48%, with a sub minimum of 40% Fail. Qualifies for<br />

HEALTH SCIENCES<br />
