To train relevant health professionals to assume leadership roles in the planning, delivery, management and evaluation of health services with particular emphasis on public health services. 2. To equip learners with requisite knowledge and skills of identifying, prioritizing, investigating, designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating appropriate public health intervention programs that address public health problems and assist/supports policy formulation. Admission Candidates must have a tertiary qualification, preferably in the health or social sciences with a minimum of 480 credits. This may include, but is not limited to, graduates of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Health Promotion, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics and other graduates of natural or social sciences. Preference for admission will be given to applicants with clearly defined career goals that are consistent with the anticipated training outcome, a strong academic record and impressive references that state the potential for success as a public health professional. Duration Two years part-time degree. Registration for the second year requires a report of satisfactory performance from the Head of Department of Community Medicine. Course Content In order to qualify for the MPH, the student must complete course-work of core and elective modules and a research thesis. Tuition in the modules is progressive over the 2 years period; introductory modules in the first year and advanced modules in the second. The core modules are: - Health Measurements including Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Demography - Health Systems Management - Primary Health Care - Health Information System - Environmental and Occupational Health and - Disease Control including Communicable and Non-Communicable Disease Control - Health Promotion Elective modules are self-driven and chosen by the student in line with their interest and career intentions. The work should be of publishable standard; the subject of which should fall within the scope of Public Health. Original data collection or analysis of secondary data will be acceptable. This will be submitted mini dissertation following the <strong>University</strong> guidelines on theses report-writing.
