28 x July 19 — August 1, 2018 x www.SouthwestOrlandoBulletin.com n Sunscreen dispensers installed at parks As Central Florida celebrates summer, representatives of Orange County Parks and Recreation and Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center with Seminole County Parks and Recreation announced that they are bringing sunscreen stations to 15 local parks. “Since installing the sunscreen dispensers in several parks, we have had positive feedback from visitors,” said Matt Suedmeyer, manager of Orange County Parks and Recreation. “Thanks to Orlando Health, guests can have a little extra sun protection.” Park attendees now have the opportunity to protect themselves from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays as part of an initiative to help prevent skin cancer and other effects of extended sunlight exposure. Nine Orange County parks now hold a total of 18 sunscreen stations. They can be found at Barnett Park, Cypress Grove Park, Downey Park, Dr. P. Phillips Community Park, Fort NEWS & BUSINESS BRIEFS Gatlin Recreation Complex, George Bailey Park, Kelly Park (Rock Springs), Chapin Station (West Orange Trail), and Moss Park. n Nemours facility opens in Winter Garden Families in west Orange County now have greater access to Nemours Children’s Health System specialty care and primary care services in one location and closer to home. Nemours recently opened a Winter Garden location at Sonata West, located at 2020 Daniels Road in Winter Garden. Patients are now being accepted at the facility. Winter Garden resident Jeanette Brown attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony with her three children. Her 7-year-old daughter, Bella, marked the official opening of the facility by using giant red scissors compiled by Lauren Salinero to cut the ceremonial Nemours Band-Aid ribbon. Bella was born with a complex heart condition and has been a Nemours patient most of her life. Jeanette’s two sons are also patients, and she often travels to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Lake Nona when they need care. Several sentinel chicken flocks have tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis virus infection, therefore the risk of transmission to humans has increased. Orange County Mosquito Control and DOH-Orange continue surveillance and prevention efforts. DOH-Orange officials remind residents and visitors to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes and to take basic precautions to help limit exposure. To protect yourself from mosquitoes, remember to “drain and cover.” Drain standing water to stop mosquitoes from multiplying. Drain water from garbage cans, house gutters, buckets, pool covers, coolers, toys, flower pots or any other containers where sprinkler water or rainwater have collected. Discard old tires, drums, bottles, cans, pots and pans, broken appliances and other items that aren’t being used. Empty and clean birdbaths and pet water bowls at least once or twice a week. Protect boats and vehicles from rain with tarps that don’t accumulate water. Maintain swimming pools in good condition and appropriately chlorinated. Empty plastic swimming pools when not in use. Cover skin with clothing or repellent. Wearing shoes, socks, long pants and long sleeves provides protection for people who work in areas where mosquitoes are present. Apply mosquito repellent to bare skin and clothing. Use mosquito netting to protect children younger than 2 months old.
