AN ARRAY OF ARTWORK. A COLLECTION OF CANVASES. A DISPLAY OF DRAWINGS. A PANOPLY OF PAINTINGS. Following the popularity of her appearance last year, Danbury Society has invited college lecturer and talented artist Helen Rubinstein to come back again and demonstrate how things are done. This time she will be showing the best ways to work with acrylics, those bright and colourful paints. The Exhibition will be formally opened by the village's new rector, Revd Canon Jacqueline Jones at 12.00 noon on Friday 24th August. It closes at 7.00 p.m. that day. It will be open again at 10.00 a.m. on Saturday 25th August until 6.00 p.m. On Sunday it opens at 10.00 a.m. and closes finally at 5.00 p.m. that day. Helen Rubinstein will be present on the Saturday afternoon. Admission is free. The show catalogue costs £1. by Norman Bartlett All these will be on show over the August Bank Holiday weekend at the Danbury Sports & Social Centre. For the 46th year in a row, local civic body Danbury Society will be arranging and setting up a wonderful exhibition of work by local artists. If previous years are any guide, you can expect to see around 400 pieces on gallery panels around the light and airy sports hall. Many people come simply to browse. Others come to buy for everything on display will be for sale. Prices typically range from £30 to £300. You will see all kinds of subjects: landscapes, still lifes, animals, abstracts, boats, buildings, portraits and many more creative topics. Our talented contributors show work in watercolour, oil, acrylic, pastel, pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, gouache and maybe linocut or woodcut. Some will be using multi-media. Alongside the exhibition of adult work, the three Danbury schools will also be there. They will be showing the best work from the children in the top years of each school. One prizewinner will be selected from each school by an independent judge. The English Arts Chorale is due to go on a singing tour of Sienna, Italy but before they go they will be in St Johns for an informal concert. The concert will start at 7pm, with doors opening at 6:30pm and lasting around an hour. They will be performing a few of the pieces that they will be doing in Sienna including excerpts of Paul Carr's Stabat Mater and some lighter pieces by the likes of Bob Chilcott, Ola Gjeile, Morton Lauridsen and others. There will be a retiring collection following the concert in aide of Church funds.
