Slipstream - September 2018

New Member Perspective

This was my first social event, as I’ve owned the
car only about 3 weeks now. I came out to a midmonth
unofficial gathering, but that was only a
handful of cars. Even with the rain, it still looked like
a ton of cars and people at this gathering! So I shyly
parked out on the outskirts, for a couple of reasons:
1) I’m terrible at parking nose-out, so giving
myself lots of room is a good idea. I’m practicing
though and doing it in the Cayman isn’t too bad
since it’s smaller than I’m used to. I’m not worried
about hitting anything - more like I don’t want to try
3 times to get it right. Then again, it only took me
twice, so maybe I’m improving.
2) My poor Cayman still has adhesive haze all
over the hood from a clearbra that was left on much
longer than it should have. Didn’t want too many
people looking too closely at it!
I did get to meet a few new people, but being the
newbie, the conversations were fairly brief as folks
were often engaged with folks they knew better. But
I got to say hi to Bill B, Peter, plus got my license
plate frame (thanks Bill O!). We had a great time
though, and I’m really looking forward to the next
M&M with the 80’s theme!
I brought my 16 year old daughter with me and
as we pulled in she started getting anxious about
her appearance, saying “Oh my god there’s so many
expensive cars here, dad! I should have dressed nicer
or done something better with my hair!” Haha... well
not sure what to tell you kiddo, I was pretty clear
about where we were going! She looked great by the
way so I’m not sure what she was stressed about.
To whomever owns the cabriolet with the blue
full leather interior, that’s gorgeous. Thank you for
putting the top down so I could get up close!
