PCA Tours: A Tour to (and on) the Track
By Mark Pitarresi, Tours Co-Chair
We are back from our short summer break for the fifth
Tour this year, and boy do we have a treat for you! This will
be our annual charity tour to MotorSport Ranch in Cresson,
TX. MotorSport Ranch is a country club for automotive
enthusiasts at an awesome race track.
We will start the tour on Sunday, September 23 in
Mansfield, TX at 10 am. The drive will be 56 miles long
and will not have a rest stop. This is a great route, and many
of our drive leaders have nicknamed an area of it “The
Enchanted Forest”, and for good reason. We will be visiting
the track while our Maverick Region High-Performance
Driving Education program is underway. If you have ever
been interested in attending an HPDE and want to know
what it’s like, this tour
is for you.
For an optional
$30 donation you
can take your car out
on the track for some
parade laps! Parade
laps are not at a pace
that is slow, as in a
street parade, nor is it
too fast. This will be
my third time doing them, and everyone I have talked to
gets excited while sharing their experience afterward.
After the parade laps, we will have a catered lunch that
is also optional. Catering will be provided by Roscoe’s
Smokehouse. They will be serving five types of meat
including ribs, sliced brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken,
and sausage. The sides will be coleslaw, potato salad, and
BBQ beans. Dessert will be peach cobbler and tea will also
be provided, all for $16 per person.
All proceeds for this tour will be donated to Patriot
PAWS, which provides service dogs at no cost to disabled
American veterans with mobile disabilities and Post-
Traumatic Stress Disorder, to help restore their physical and
emotional independence. You can find more information on
Patriot PAWS or any of our other of our preferred charities
at mav.pca.org/about/charity. Donations can also be made at
any time at that address.
You must register for the tour at http://mav.pca.org/
Events/Tours/. We have two classes now on our tours. Choose
Vintage Class for a more relaxed scenic tour, or Modern
Class for the same type of tour that we have provided in
the past. Whichever class you choose it is your decision, no
matter the type of Porsche you drive. Three days before the
tour date, we will send you all the information you need to
attend. We hand out packets the day of the tour with all the
information as well.
The Drivers Briefing begins at 10 am so
please arrive early so that you are signed in
on time. Most tour attendees arrive early to
meet new friends and socialize with both
new and familiar faces.
Arriving early also helps our volunteers get everyone
signed in on time so the tour is on schedule. No special
navigation will be needed. Our Group Leaders will be
familiar with the route and will guide each group of 14 cars
or less along the route. If you have any questions about the
event please email tours@mavpca.org.
