in particular has resulted in an over representation of smokers amongst
those pregnant women interviewed. Pregnant women smokers referred for
smoking prevention were the group targetted at University College Hospital
Galway.likewise those women interviewed by public maternity personnel are
in the main more likely to be in direct contact with lower socio economic
groupings of women.Account must be taken of the fact that in Ireland middle
and upper class pregnant are most likely to avail of private maternity care.
Results
Question 1: Check if the woman is in the third trimester of
pregnancy or after delivery at the maternity…
The majority of those pregnant women interviewed were in the third trimester
of pregnancy, the resulting percentage being 64%. Thirty six percent of the
target group were interviewed after delivery.

Question 2: When did you discover you were pregnant?
Seventy-eight per cent of the women discovered they were pregnant in the
first trimester of their pregnancy. Interestingly, the largest percentage
(94.50%) acknowledged the discovery of their pregnancy after the first three
months stage.
