It has been a privilege to be a member of a state association and ANA since graduation as a new RN staff nurse and have had the opportunity to serve on local district, state, and national levels in various positions. Leadership skill development through our professional nursing association at all levels is extremely valuable personally and for the profession of nursing. I invite you to consider serving on an SDNA Committee or as an officer in SDNA to further your own leadership development. As a Population Health nursing instructor, I and the students are out in the community not only locally, but across the state of South Dakota and internationally on an annual service learning experience to Guatemala. These experiences allow my voice to be united with others to improve healthcare for all. As a member of SDNA for more than 40 years, I welcome this opportunity to communicate with members and encourage their participation in our organization by running for an elected office. I am strongly committed to working to maintain the visibility of our professional organization which represents the largest group of health care providers in our state. South Dakota has many nursing students who are actively involved in their student organization, and I would like to see them transition to SDNA membership and become actively involved at the state level once they become RNs. 15
