Coalition and Liaison Reports<br />
a) <strong>SDNA</strong> Political Action Committee (PAC): Julie Dangel reported that last year the PAC gave<br />
$3050.00 to legislative candidates. PAC is now raising funds again for this year by having a<br />
raffle fundraiser of a blue Calvin Klein purse, infinity scarf, Riddles necklace, and more. Raffle<br />
tickets are $5.00 for 1 ticket, of 3 tickets for $10.00.<br />
b) SD Nurses Foundation (SDNF): Tom Stenvig reported that the SDNF has awarded over $31,000<br />
in scholarships. <strong>SDNA</strong> members are encouraged to continue to donate to the SDNF.<br />
Other Reports<br />
a) Board of Nursing Report: Gloria Damgaard (found on page 36-37 of 2017 <strong>SDNA</strong> <strong>Annual</strong><br />
<strong>Convention</strong> book). Gloria also highlighted two things: First) the legislative activity in 2017<br />
and success of nurse practitioners in S.D. now having independent practice. Second) the<br />
Celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the SDBON that occurred this year.<br />
b) Center for Nursing Workforce Report: Linda Young (found on pg 38-39 of 2017 <strong>SDNA</strong> <strong>Annual</strong><br />
<strong>Convention</strong> book). Linda also reported that the 2nd cohort of the Nursing Leadership Academy<br />
is occurring in Rapid City. The 3rd course will be offered in the Spring of <strong>2018</strong> in Sioux Falls.<br />

New Business<br />
a) Tellers Report and Introduction of New Leadership- Dawn Warren announced those elected into<br />
<strong>SDNA</strong> Leadership open positions:<br />
*President- Margie Washnok<br />
*Vice President- Nancy Fahrenwald<br />
*Treasurer- Christina Plemmons<br />
*Nominations Committee: Sandra Welling (Chair), Vicky Buhr, and Alham Abuatiq<br />
*Following announcements, a motion was made by Carrie CH to destroy the 2016 ballots, with<br />
2nd by Julie D. All in favor.<br />
b) Discussion about the recent hurricane tragedies in Puerto Rico, Texas, and Florida, and how<br />
nursing and nursing students may be affected.<br />
c) Reminder that Nurses Day at the Legislature is Feb 5-6, <strong>2018</strong>.<br />
d) The Bylaws Committee is in need of one more member. Anna Berry agreed to be on this.<br />
e) The Awards Committee is in need of one more member. Joanne Tiemann agreed to be on this.<br />
f) Invitation to <strong>2018</strong> <strong>SDNA</strong> <strong>Convention</strong>- All are invited to attend the <strong>2018</strong> <strong>SDNA</strong> convention Oct.<br />
7 & 8 in Brookings. It will be coordinated by District 8 & 9. The theme is “Healthy Families,<br />
Healthy Patients, Healthy Nurses”<br />
g) The <strong>SDNA</strong> Lead Nurse Planner position is open as Becky is stepping down. Christina Plemmons<br />
agreed to take over this position.<br />
h) Reminder that Avera is hosting an Opioid Epidemic convention Oct.18 at the Sioux Falls<br />
<strong>Convention</strong> Center.<br />
i) On October 25 Margie W will be attending a meeting with the S.D. State Medical Association to<br />
have discussions about the opioid addiction crisis in S.D. In 2017 S.D. had 27 deaths related to<br />
opioid overdose.<br />
j) Resolutions- Thank you to District 11 for hosting the 2017 <strong>SDNA</strong> convention.<br />
k) Adjourn- Kathy Jorgensen motioned to adjourn the meeting at 3:50 with 2nd by Eileen B. All in favor.<br />
