‘WE WILL REMEMBER THEM’ AT CHELMSFORD MUSEUM On Sunday 11 November it will be 100 years since the end of the First World War. In the run-up to this landmark date Chelmsford Museum will be hosting a very special exhibition, ‘We Will Remember Them', running from Saturday 29 September to Sunday 11 November. For the last few months school children from Springfield Primary School have been working with Chelmsford Museum and the Golden Oldies Charitable Trust to create an exhibition that will explore Chelmsford's links with those who fought for and gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and ‘We Will Remember Them' is the result. Nick Wickenden, Senior Curatorial Consultant, Chelmsford Museum said: " The children from the school have come into the museum to look at some of the First World War artefacts that we hold, for inspiration. During the exhibition we will be displaying several of these items for the public to see". Nick continued: "Many men from the Chelmsford area gave their lives during the First World War and we hope that their descendants will be able to come to the museum to see the exhibition". Jacquelyn Pick, Headteacher at Springfield Primary School, said: "It is vitally important that children of today understand the impact that was made by those who served 100 years ago. Included in our project has been the learning of popular WW1 songs which we will be performing at the exhibition opening. The children's English and art work this term has been based on WW1 and they have thoroughly enjoyed finding out about the uniforms, an individual Essex Regiment soldier, the role of women in the war and lots more beside". The exhibition will focus in on several individuals from the Essex Regiment (with help from volunteers from the Western Front Association), and will feature information from a lottery-funded exhibition put on by Lowewood Museum in Hoddesdon, which researched a WW1 medic, Stephen Warner. Also on display will be the poignant effects of two young privates, Harry Carter and William Marmon, whose bodies were only discovered in the Somme a few years ago and identified through DNA testing. Entry to ‘We Will Remember Them' is free and the museum is open Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm, (closed Fridays in term-time), Saturdays 10am to 5pm, and Sundays 1pm to 4pm. To discover more about Chelmsford Museum, visit: www.chelmsford.gov.uk/museums BING CROSBY’S GRANDSON HEADS TO CHELMSFORD’S CIVIC THEATRE FOR ONE-OFF Uk SHOW Phil Crosby Jr, the grandson of legendary entertainer, Bing Crosby, will be jetting in from America and touching down in Chelmsford for a very special one-off UK show at The Civic Theatre on Friday 16 November. Phil is a Los Angeles based crooner and musician who has performed at top venues all over the world. Now Phil is making a rare visit to the UK to perform just one UK show that will celebrate and honor his grandfather, and many other classic crooners from the golden age. As the grandson of Bing Crosby, Phil grew up surrounded by Hollywood royalty, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davies Jr, Andy Williams and many more. Phil started his entertainment career at the age of eight, starring in television shows and commercials, and had formed a blues/rock band in his teenage years. However, the pull of the Crosby genes was strong, and Phil soon began performing songs from the great American songbook and early 20th century jazz. Ian Knowles, Theatre Manager, Chelmsford's Civic Theatre, says: "Phil has made a name for himself as a stand out entertainer who is continuing the legacy of American music and culture, for a new generation of fans. In fact, Phil's passion is to share his wonderful insight to this very special era of American music with younger people and with those who already appreciate this great American musical movement. "It's a real coup to bring such a talented and internationally regarded artiste to Chelmsford's Civic Theatre and we look forward to welcoming him to our stage." Phil Crosby Jr has been hailed "as lush as his impressive lineage suggests" by the Hollywood FM Bugle, ‘A vital link to the heyday of Hollywood" by the LA Times, and "A chip off the old crooner" by Daily News LA Life.
