CRACKING UP
Christmas crackers are a fond tradition in most households,
but London’s Fortnum and Mason have set out to make some
noise with their Gold Wreath crackers. At $1060 for a box
of six, we’re not expecting the adults to go easy on the young
ones, as is often the case. The prizes within are certainly
worth squabbling over; a mini comb or dysfunctional yoyo
these are not. Silk pocket squares from Lanvin, silver-plated
honey drizzler and leather coin purses are awarded to the
victorious, so you’d better get working on those arm muscles.
Don’t worry, these suave crackers still come with a paper
crown and corny joke. www.fortnumandmason.com
THE CHRISTMAS JUMPER
Finally, we’ve found a Christmas jumper than we won’t pull
over our head so begrudgingly. Fashion designer Bella Freud
has gifted us with wonderful woollen jumpers that are subtly
festive and $580 is surely a small price to pay for a Christmas
jumper that doesn’t itch, flash or moult. This particular style
is a collaboration with one of our favourite Brit super models,
Kate Moss. The pair of influencers wanted to celebrate
the sheer brilliance of the untraditional, yet hugely popular,
Christmas tune Fairytale of New York by The Pogues. If we
don’t wake up to one of these jumpers under the tree, we
really will be rather disappointed. www.bellafreud.com
HOW SWEET IT IS
We all enjoy indulging heartily during the festive season; attacking each
block of chocolate and bag of sweets rather relentlessly. However, if the
chocolate under the tree had cost an eye-watering $1065, we’re sure
we may savour it for just a fraction longer, perhaps. To’ak is the company
putting chocolate making and tasting on the same high shelf of both wine
and whisky. Using the rarest and oldest variety of Ecuadorian cacao, that
was believed to be extinct, it’s little wonder the price tag on this sweet treat
is far larger than that on a bag of Pineapple Lumps. While it’s encouraged
to share the love at Christmas time, we probably won’t be snapping off a
corner for anyone, sorry. www.toakchocolate.com
