DISTINGUISHED HISTORIC LANDMARK AWARD The Arizona Chapter of the American Planning Association bestowed on DC Ranch the “Distinguished Historic Landmark” award. The award was presented to DMB Associates in November and is given to places that demonstrate a significant impact on planning in Arizona. To receive this honor, DC Ranch was required to meet stringent criteria by demonstrating it has a history and legacy that spans more than 100 years, is innovative and original and maintains superior quality. 10
Ranch Association FOCUS ON SECURITY COMMAND CENTER DC Ranch completed work to transform the Westgate gatehouse into a security command center. During the first phase of the project, visual displays were added to actively monitor more than 100 video feeds from within the community. A dispatch center to route and forward information quickly and accurately to the community patrols was created in the gatehouse during the second phase of the project, which went live on Oct. 1. This enables all calls to be routed to the appropriate safety team member to improve response times and customer service. To assist with traffic safety, the Ranch Association added or refurbished a total of 73 speed and directional signs, including new signage on the gate barrier arms at the West and East Gates. New Wi-Fi equipment was added at all manned gates to enable faster guest check-in times. Updated video recorders and license plate readers now provide improved image clarity and broadened range. COMMUNITY SAFETY FORUM More than 100 residents attended the first Community Safety Forum at DC Ranch on Oct. 24 at The Homestead Community Center. Scottsdale police officer Jason Glenn gave a presentation on time-tested safety ideas that can be put into practice when at home or out and about. Additional presentations included tips from Arizona Game and Fish on how to handle encounters with desert wildlife. Attendees also learned more about the community’s new Emergency Notification System. The event was sponsored by the DC Ranch third-party security services providers Safeguard, for gate maintenance, and Anderson Security Agency, the new security company. EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM A new DC Ranch Emergency Notification System, which delivers text messages to residents during an emergency, was activated for the first time during flash flooding on Oct. 23. 11
