Councillor Andy Kelly also gave an update on his support for protecting the Greenbelt.
A thanks also goes to David Brewster who did a fantastic job in chairing the meeting.
The Group had lots of information and up to date plans of the Kingsway South
and Newhey Quarry sites.
Whilst the first consultation has closed, please see the ‘WHAT HAPPENS NEXT’
paragraph below which outlines the rest of the process. Our fight doesn’t end here!
NEWHEY & MILNROW HANDS OFF OUR GREENBELT
BANNER LEADS THE MASS PROTESTERS TO THE TANDLE
HILL GATHERING
Atrocious weather, heavy rain, high winds and extreme cold conditions did not prevent
a high turnout of Newhey & Milnrow residents joining with the 4,000 protesters who
travelled in the mass protest walk to Tandle Hill on Sunday 3rd March.
Starting at High Crompton Park, Rochdale Road, the Newhey & Milnrow group were
joined by Shaw & Crompton Greenbelt supporters. We marched through High
Crompton, along Thornham Road to our first ‘media’ interview stop at Thornham St
James C of E Primary School where we were joined by Save Royton Greenbelt Group.
From leaving the Turks Head Pub our banner lead the way along Thornham Old Road to
Tandle Hill were we met up with supporters from Slattocks, Middleton and Chadderton.
TV and media interviews were given and a range of different prominent speakers from
all the Greenbelt Groups in our area addressed the large crowd.
Among our supporters were walkers from the Milnrow Library Walk & Talk Group, Horse
Riding enthusiasts, many people who attended our Milnrow Cricket Club public meeting
and lots of private residents who wished to make their views felt.
For people in authority in Greater Manchester, Mayor Andy Burnham and all the Local
Councils - the message is clear:
SAVE OUR GREENBELT!
