After moving to FL in
2000 Sparky really
found his groove at the
Preliminary level. We
started to make time
on Cross Country by
being efficient and by
taking the fast route at
combinations with
options. He was also
more competitive in the dressage phase. A
highlight was finishing 1st after dressage at the
prestigious Red Hills Event with over 60 entries
and top horses from all over!
In 2002 Sparky started winning at top events
in the Southeast at Preliminary such as
Basingstoke, Pinetop, Poplar Place, and Flat
Creek. In 2001 he placed 3rd overall in the Area
III Preliminary standings and was Reserve
Champion in 2002.
Sparky showed consistency and resilience in
a tough sport for many years and at 31 years
old is still rideable and teaching a few young
girls dressage.
My parents bought my Egyptian-Related
Arabian, TF Kilimanjaro, Killer, for me when I
was thirteen years old and he was five. He
was purchased as a hunter pleasure prospect,
but when we started jumping small cross rails
as an exercise
we figured out
he loved
jumping. We
started
competing in
the sport
horse arena
as a working
hunter.
Nine years after we began our partnership we
started our eventing career. Killer has always
been a brave little horse; our first time out
eventing was no exception. Our first time
schooling cross country was in October 2018.
He jumped everything I pointed him at with no
hesitation and always saved us if I couldn’t
see a distance. We had an amazing first cross
country schooling together, receiving lots of
compliments about his bravery.
We competed in our first horse trial at
beginner novice a few weeks later. We finished
our dressage phase with a penalty score of
30.6 and finished with only time faults on our
cross country course.
