About a year after we got her, she suffered a
serious injury in the pasture. I was devastated
because I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to be
able to ride her again. Every day for 6 months I
went to the barn, cleaned her wound, and
hand-grazed her in the pasture. I’ll never forget
the day I was finally able to ride her again.
Although we lost a year of riding time, the bond
that Misty and I have is stronger because of the
time I spent helping her recover from the injury.
2006 bay Arabian x Clydesdale gelding
Highest Eventing Level: Preliminary
Status: Currently competing
Owner/Rider: Laura Del Ponte
Sir Windsor is an Arabian/ Clydesdale cross.
When I got him 4 years ago, neither of us had
any Eventing experience. Since we have been
together, we have successfully competed up to
the Preliminary level and I hope to move him up
to Intermediate soon.
I started jumping her a little over a year ago
and now we are starting to compete in Novice
level events. I also took her to the Tryon
International Equestrian Center for the US
Pony Club Championships this past summer
for show jumping, and I am going to try to
qualify to go for eventing next year.
I’m so thankful to have this horse in my life
and I have no words to describe how much she
means to me. She taught me how to be
responsible, patient, and how to work hard for
something I care about. I plan on taking her to
college with me next year at The University of
Findlay where we will compete on the varsity
eventing team. Not only is Misty a one of a kind
horse, but she’s my best friend and I can’t wait
to see how far we will go in the years to come.
His Arabian
breeding has
definitely
helped him
become such a
fantastic
athlete. I have
never met a
horse better
built for cross
country than
he is.
The combination of his intelligence, quick
footedness, carefulness, and boldness make
him the ideal cross country and show jumping
horse. The loyalty that he shows and how much
he tries for me has given me a relationship with
a horse stronger than any other relationship I
have known.
