Being invited to the USEF Developing Grand
Prix Horse National Championships in 2018
on my half Arab gelding Elijas Trubador MGF
+++// was a dream come true for me.
Competing at that
prestigious venue was
something that I had
dreamed of in the back
of my head for a few
years. I never thought
it would happen at the
Grand Prix level
though!
Eli was ten in 2018
and was bred by Laura
Venne of Madrigal
Farms in Oregon. His
father is an Egyptian
Arabian, Trubadorsmadrigal. His mother is a
Paint, Sizzlin Scotch. I have had him since he
was 3 years old and just started under saddle.
He has been incredibly easy to train and
bring up the levels. He has such a quick mind
and loves to work. Besides dressage he also
enjoys chasing cows, trail riding, jumping and
anything else that allows him to express
himself. He has always been a bold and
confident horse. When he sees the horse
trailer for the first time each spring he goes
wild with excitement. You must stay out of his
way when it's time to load up because he will
drag you to the trailer.
Eli has truly made me the rider I am. He is
my first Grand Prix horse and while I have had
lots of help from the ground, I have done all
the riding and training on him. For us both to
learn this together in such a relatively short
time is incredible. So much of it is due to his
ability to figure out what I want and forgiving
me all of the mistakes I have made along the
way.
He is also happy to teach other riders the
more advanced
movements in
dressage. I think
the Arab in him
makes him
incredibly smart
and forgiving at the
same time. He is
the partner of a
lifetime and I can’t
imagine ever being
blessed with
another horse like
him.
Trust and respect are two-way streets.
We want the horse to accept us as leaders of the
herd, to guide them safely and to provide protection
and comfort. In return, they will give us their respect,
and willing submission to our ideas about what to do
next, and when and where. But this respect can only
be based on well-deserved trust.
