The President recently signed a new set of amendments to the National<br />
Credit Act. Although we are yet to find out exactly when they will<br />
come into effect, they already form part of South Africa’s legislation.<br />
The new laws impact on how debt review is done, and also make<br />
provision for consumers with smaller debts to get debt counselling<br />
from the National Credit Regulator (called Debt Intervention).<br />
When a new law will possibly have a big affect on the economy, then<br />
Government calls for a Socio-Economic report to see what could result<br />
if the new laws were passed. The results are normally discussed by<br />
Parliament and the President and from time to time the public.
