H E A LT H Training pays off for Marcus THIS MONTH RAÚL ROMERO, FROM AMBITION PERSONAL TRAINING IN LICHFIELD, IS SUPER PROUD OF ONE OF HIS YOUNGEST AND MOST DEDICATED CLIENTS MARCUS, AS HE TAKES THE PODIUM IN THE EUROPEAN KARTING CHAMPIONSHIPS Lichfield’s Marcus Luzio, who turned 12 this year, has finished third overall in the European Karting Championships that saw him race across the continent throughout the year against competitors of up to 15 years of age. Marcus, from King Edward VI School in Lichfield, developed a passion for Formula 1 at an early age and started karting when he was only nine years old at Midland Karting on Fradley Park. It wasn’t long before he obtained a licence from the Motorsports Association and began racing at tracks up and down the country. This year, Marcus decided to move up from the Cadet classes for younger children and race faster karts. These new Junior classes for children aged up to 15 certainly aren’t for the faint hearted, with speeds reaching 80mph. The talented 12-year-old however hasn’t been put off at all, but instead is thriving off the challenge. “When I first put my foot on the throttle, the acceleration took my breath away and I thought I was going to fly off the track at the first corner. Luckily the kart just stuck to the tarmac and I was hooked!” At such high speeds, the force that the body endures increases dramatically and it is because of this 3g g-force that Marcus has been enduring in his racing that he has been working hard with Raúl at Ambition Personal Training, based at Upper St John Street in the centre of Lichfield. Marcus added: “I train at the gym on most days after school. It’s really important that I strengthen my core and improve my endurance for the racing. Raúl has been fantastic with creating a training program for me that focuses on these areas of my fitness.” The recent success in Europe means he has secured his ticket to race in the World Karting Finals in Le Mans this month where he will be competing against more than 500 of the best drivers in the world to take the title of World Champion. It has a strong genetic predisposition to those of Scandinavian or Northern European descent.
