Happy Festival of Lights!
Did you know that November was proclaimed Hindu
Heritage Month by the City of Ottawa last year?
It’s also the month of Diwali, the grand festival of lights
which is celebrated by Hindus around the world. It is
also observed by our Jain, Sikh, and some Buddhist
neighbours.
Diwali is a time of year to remember and honour the
victory of light over dark, good over evil, and knowledge
over ignorance.
The Diwali festivities normally take place over five days
and this year, in Canada, they culminate on Sunday,
October 27.
Happy Diwali to our friends and neighbours who
celebrate the holiday! We hope the coming year brings
much light, happiness, and prosperity to you and to our
whole community!
There is - as with all celebrations - good food, focus on
children, love, and laughter.
