The 1980s
The 1990s
Our roots began with Arts Gloucester, a volunteer
umbrella organization that had 15 cultural groups and
more than 30 individual members in 1980. Gloucester
Arts Council incorporated as a non-profit charity in
1987 and opened an office at Cyrville Community
Centre in 1988.
1991
In 1991, the organization held the first Mayor’s
Luncheon for the Arts and organized FestivArts. In
1995, Gloucester Mayor Cain announced Lottery for
the Arts to generate revenue for an arts facility. A
non-profit board was created to lead the project.
1996-97
The Artnews newsletter was first published in 1996
and the organization became the first arts council
to sign an agreement with a municipality to provide
assistance to groups in 1997.
I’m very proud to work in an
organization where we can
amplify the arts by offering
resources and networks,
creating opportunities for artists
to engage with the public and by
promoting the arts community
to all of Ottawa
1998-99
In 1998, we were voted as best community arts
council in Ontario by the Ontario Arts Council and in
1999 we were recognized by Ontario Arts Council as a
leader in community arts development.
General Manager,
