Entry requirements
• 2 GCSEs at grade 3 (D), to include English. Maths
must be at grade 2 (E) or above.
or
A full Level 1 at Pass grade, plus a GCSE grade 3
(D) or above in English.
• Attend ‘taster’ sessions to find out more about
the course.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude and a keen
interest in music.
• Have an interview and further assessment to
check the course is right for you.
About the course
If you have a passion for music, this course gives you
a great introduction to many aspects of the music
industry.
It helps you to manage a music product by
developing practical music technology skills and
production techniques.
You explore musical composition, computer
systems used by musicians, sound effects and
musical recording. You can also perform at lots of
College events including ceremonies and end of
term celebrations. Plus you get the chance to gain
experience of working as a stagehand at a local
festival.
Your future
On successful completion of the course, you may
progress on to the Music Technology BTEC Level
3 course, one of our other Level 3 courses or an
apprenticeship. You could also go in to employment
as part of a promotions team, a roadie, or trainee DJ.
You may even form your own band!
Entry requirements
• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English
& maths. If you do not have grade 4 (C) or above in both
subjects, the minimum for the other subject is grade 3 (D).

A full Level 2 at Pass grade or above with maths &
English grades equivalent to those stated above.
Students with grade 3 (D) in either English or maths will be
expected to re-take that subject in Year 1.

tutors.
• You will be invited to a ‘taster’ session to find out
more about the course.
About the course
Develop your love of music in to a career. Learn about
the industry including music production, sequencing,
composing, live sound techniques, as well as the
listening skills required by Music Technologists. For
your final project, you plan and produce an original
digital track. You also get the chance to perform live
in front of an audience, gain work experience at a
local festival and take part in competitions.
Previous music students have had the opportunity to
experience different elements of the music industry
on projects such as the Big Music Project. This
included music workshops with external musicians
demonstrating different music styles and techniques
such as Percussion, Beatboxing, Singing and Musical
Theatre.
Your future
After the course, you can study at college or
university at a higher level in Music Technology, or
use the skills and experience you have gained to
progress further in your career in the Music Industry.
