Entry requirements<br />

• 2 GCSEs at grade 3 (D), to include English. Maths<br />

must be at grade 2 (E) or above.<br />

or<br />

A full Level 1 at Pass grade, plus a GCSE grade 3<br />

(D) or above in English.<br />

• Attend ‘taster’ sessions to find out more about<br />

the course.<br />

• Demonstrate a positive attitude and a keen<br />

interest in music.<br />

• Have an interview and further assessment to<br />

check the course is right for you.<br />

About the course<br />

If you have a passion for music, this course gives you<br />

a great introduction to many aspects of the music<br />

industry.<br />

It helps you to manage a music product by<br />

developing practical music technology skills and<br />

production techniques.<br />

You explore musical composition, computer<br />

systems used by musicians, sound effects and<br />

musical recording. You can also perform at lots of<br />

<strong>College</strong> events including ceremonies and end of<br />

term celebrations. Plus you get the chance to gain<br />

experience of working as a stagehand at a local<br />

festival.<br />

Your future<br />

On successful completion of the course, you may<br />

progress on to the Music Technology BTEC Level<br />

3 course, one of our other Level 3 courses or an<br />

apprenticeship. You could also go in to employment<br />

as part of a promotions team, a roadie, or trainee DJ.<br />

You may even form your own band!<br />

Entry requirements<br />

• 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English<br />

& maths. If you do not have grade 4 (C) or above in both<br />

subjects, the minimum for the other subject is grade 3 (D).<br />

A full Level 2 at Pass grade or above with maths &<br />

English grades equivalent to those stated above.<br />

Students with grade 3 (D) in either English or maths will be<br />

expected to re-take that subject in Year 1.<br />

• Demonstrate your musical talent to our panel of<br />

tutors.<br />

• You will be invited to a ‘taster’ session to find out<br />

more about the course.<br />

About the course<br />

Develop your love of music in to a career. Learn about<br />

the industry including music production, sequencing,<br />

composing, live sound techniques, as well as the<br />

listening skills required by Music Technologists. For<br />

your final project, you plan and produce an original<br />

digital track. You also get the chance to perform live<br />

in front of an audience, gain work experience at a<br />

local festival and take part in competitions.<br />

Previous music students have had the opportunity to<br />

experience different elements of the music industry<br />

on projects such as the Big Music Project. This<br />

included music workshops with external musicians<br />

demonstrating different music styles and techniques<br />

such as Percussion, Beatboxing, Singing and Musical<br />

Theatre.<br />

Your future<br />

After the course, you can study at college or<br />

university at a higher level in Music Technology, or<br />

use the skills and experience you have gained to<br />

progress further in your career in the Music Industry.<br />
