A HEART FOR ALL
Entrepreneur, actress, conservationist and world traveller.
Pascal Pienaar is making her dreams happen one step at a time and then she is also
helping in the fight against global warming as well.
She first caught our eye in the
kykNET soapy, Binnelanders
as the bubbly Karli du Preez
and since then, Pascal Pienaar
has become a daily visitor
in the living rooms of many
households. A few months
ago, however, she decided to spread
her wings and say farewell to her
character leaving many fans sad and
shocked. But, don’t worry. It’s not the
last you’ll hear of the blonde beauty.
These days she’s an entrepreneur and
conservationist saving the planet one
elephant bush at a time.
After so many years on Binnelanders
Pascal was in the mood for a
challenge. She also believes that
actors should not be too caught up in
their comfort zones. “My gut just told
me it was time,” she says.
“Karli was my very first professional
role and it was frightening to learn the
art of television in front of the entire
country. It’s not like theatre where you
have only a few people watching, and
you do not have a lot of time on the
studio floor when filming,” she says.
Leaving Binnelanders was no easy
task but, says Pascal, the decision
to move on was both a little bit
wonderful and a relief. “I could
suddenly set my own daily pace,
colour or cut my hair if I wanted to,
spread my wings, discover new things
and get to know new people. I had
more time for the things I couldn’t do
over the past six years,” she says.
Two years ago, the actress also turned
entrepreneur. “I love to travel and
realised that I needed to make a plan
to start earning a second income. I
decided to give myself one year to
start up my business before deciding
if it was something that I wanted to
do full-time. Needless to say, it was the
best decision of my life. I got to see so
many wonderful places and all thanks
to something I used to do in my spare
time,” she says.
“The beauty products I sell focus on
anti-aging and adding antioxidants
back into the skin. There is a cream for
every skin type as well as supplements
to help you get a glowing skin from
the inside out. I also have a facial wash
device that exfoliates and removes
make-up like no other cleaner on the
market. I use all my products myself
and it’s nice to get compliments
about the condition of my skin. Even
more so when my clients are happy
with their own results,” Pascal says.
Building a new business is super
stressful and lots of hard work. “To
achieve success you have to put in
the hours and make sacrifices. A little
every day goes a long way, ” Pascal
says. Staying motivated is, however,
an entirely different story. “You have
to encourage and motivate yourself
every day. If you are not working, no
money will come in and then you only
have yourself to blame,” she adds.
Apart from her business, her other
passion is her elephant bush
(Spekboom) project. “The elephant
bush is an amazing indigenous plant
that releases more oxygen than the
Amazon. It’s drought and fire resistant,
acts like a sponge for carbon dioxide,
helps with erosion and you can even
eat it as it is high in Vitamin C,”
Pascal explains.
The actress is passionate about saving
the environment and to fight global
warming. She wants to plant about a
1 000 elephant bushes before the end
of the year. “I would love for people to
join the cause and plant an elephant
bush in their own gardens. It’s as easy
as taking a plant cutting and planting
it in your garden.
To combat our carbon footprint one
has to plant 10 elephant bushes a
year and we can all start with our own
gardens,” she says.
When she’s not going to auditions,
building her business or planting
elephant bushes, Pascal loves to
travel. The most interesting place
she’s travelled to is Cappadoccia in
Turkey and Wadi Rhum in Jordan.
“Both places were so weird and surreal
I almost felt like I was dreaming. I
would still love to see the fjords in
Scandinavia and the Faroe islands.
Both are places with few people and
loads of nature,” Pascal ads.
When at home, she loves to
spend time with friends and family
and recently took up sailing.
She loves nature and when she finds
the time, you’ll find her on a hiking
trail somewhere.
For now, her conservation work and
business take up a lot of her time, but
fans can look forward to seeing
Pascal on a dating show called ‘Hoor
My, Sien My, Soen My’. She is also hard
at work on a show she will soon be
pitching to kykNET.
