Vintae, <strong>The</strong> Society's White Rioja, 2018, Rioja, Spain. Viura, Malvasia. A classically styled white Rioja made from this famed Spanish region's classic white grapes, with a proportion aged in barrel. It is deep gold in colour with aromas that are spicy, oxidative and nutty, rather than fruity. [£8.50] • 4. Three Choirs Vineyard, Payford Bridge, 2018, Gloucestereshire, England Bacchus, Reichensteiner. An attractive and intricate English white with vibrant aromas of nettle and lime, and a palate which is alive with fresh ripe gooseberry. [£9.50] • 5. Miles Mossop, <strong>The</strong> Introduction Roussanne, 2018, Stellenbosch, South Africa 100% Roussanne. A lovely, heady white whose flinty, lime-leaf charm does very nicely with scallops, lobster and similarly opulent seafood, with or without extravagant sauces. [£11.50] • 6. Kumeu River, <strong>The</strong> Society's Exhibition New Zealand Chardonnay, 2017, Kumeu, Auckland, New Zealand 100% Chardonnay. This starry Kiwi single-plot chardonnay has a touch of struck match and vanilla on the nose, with green apple and citrus peel coming through on the fine, balanced and refreshing finish. Supremely classy. [£16] • 7. Almeida Garrett, 2016, Beira Interior, Portugal Tinta Roriz, Trincadeira, Tinta Barroca. Beira Interior lies to the east of Portugal, towards the border with Spain. This is a true mountain wine, the altitude of the vineyards bringing a slightly cooler profile to this brambly blend of local grapes. [£6.50] • 8. Feudo Arancio, <strong>The</strong> Society's Sicilian Reserve Red, 2015, Sicily, Italy 100% Nero d'Avola. Smooth, generous and fragrant Italian red from Sicily's native nero d'Avola grape. This has deservedly been extremely popular since we first introduced it, because it hits the spot and is great value. [£8.25] • 9. Grüber Röschitz, TPunkt Genau Light Zweigelt, NV, Weinviertel, Austria (£9.50 100% Zweigelt. At just 9.5% alcohol, this is a brilliantly juicy and refreshing Austrian red, made using the Zweigelt grape. Crisp, bright and ripe, the bottle is bursting with cherry and blackcurrant fruit. Villa Melnik, Loud & Proud Mavrud, 2017, Melnik, Bulgaria 100% Mavrud. This is a full-bodied red, with black-forest fruit and a hint of pepper. It offers soft tannins, a rich texture and real depth. Strap in! [£9.50] • 11. Familia Deicas, Atlántico Sur Marselan, 2018, Garzón - Maldonaldo, Uruguay 100% Marselan. Marselan is a Cabernet Sauvignon-Grenache cross. It might sound odd, but don't be put off! This really is delicious. It offers lovely ripe, generous Grenache-like fruit, with sweet tannins and is underpinned by a cool southern Atlantic freshness. [£10.50] • 12. Chateau Musar, Hochar, 2016, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon Cinsault, Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon. A smooth, spicy and plump red wine from Lebanese producer Chateau Musar, with an exotic twist that Musar fans will know well. Made with fruit from a single vineyard planted with Cinsault, Carignan, Cabernet and Grenache. [£13.50] 23
