Wines from Castilla y León<br />

Castilla y León has 75,000 hectares under vine (6% of the national total). It ranks fourth in<br />

grape production in Spain and is home to more than 500 wineries that are flourishing thanks<br />

to the dedication and enthusiasm of 18,500 producers. <strong>The</strong> autonomous community boasts no<br />

fewer than 14 Designations of Origin, including 4 quality wine areas (Protected Designations<br />

of Origin). <strong>The</strong>re is also a specific quality seal for the entire territory: the Vino de la Tierra de<br />

Castilla y León Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).<br />

• 1. Bodegas de Alberto, Lisonja Verdejo, 2018, D.O. Rueda, Spain<br />

100% Verdejo. 13.5% ABV. Fruity with aromas of fresh-cut grass, fennel and hints of apple. Straw yellow.<br />

Persistent, full-bodied, with a long aftertaste. Wine and food: Ideal with light meals or an aperitif. Best Served<br />

at 6º or 7º C. [£6.99]<br />

• 2. Diez Siglos de Verdejo, Diez Siglos, 2018, D.O. Rueda, Spain<br />

100% Verdejo. 13% ABV. <strong>The</strong> Diez Siglos Verdejo is our most renowned wine – not only because it gives name<br />

to our winery, but also because of its excellent quality. Fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged on its own<br />

lees, it gains body and a perfect structure. A perfect varietal expression, bright and with a powerful volume in<br />

the mouth. Aromas of fresh grass, fennel and aniseed typical of the Verdejo variety. [£7.50]<br />

• 3. Bodegas Teodoro Recio, Cuna de La Seca, 2018, D.O. Rueda, Spain<br />

100% Verdejo. 13% ABV. Bodegas Teodoro Recio pays tribute to La Seca village with this traditional Verdejo<br />

white wine. A village whose origins of the planting of vineyards date from the 16th century, supplying in<br />

subsequent centuries to the Royal Courts of Madrid and Valladolid, even becoming in the 18th century the<br />

era of the greatest splendour, making the white wine of the area the highest quality in the Realm. [£4.75]<br />

• 4. Bodegas Crianza de Pozáldez, Liberso Curioso Verdejo, 2017, D.O. Rueda, Spain<br />

100% Verdejo. 13.5% ABV. Liberso is a curious Verdejo that comes from a blend of 19 different wines. On the<br />

one hand, 38% of Liberso is a young wine that has lain on its fine lees for more than 8 months. <strong>The</strong> rest comes<br />

from 18 individually produced wines fermented in barrels made by an exclusive selection of American, French<br />

and Hungarian coopers. [£13.50]<br />

• 5. Laparra Wines, Gran Blanco Great White, 2017, D.O. Rueda, Spain<br />

100% Verdejo. 13.5% ABV. Don't mind, taste it and enjoy! [£18]<br />

• 6. Bodegas José Pariente, José Pariente Verdejo, 2016, D.O. Rueda, Spain<br />

100% Verdejo. 13% ABV. Brilliant straw yellow with greenish reflections. white fruits (pear, peach), citrus and<br />

passion fruit. In the mouth the notes of fresh fruit appear again. Unctuous, sweet and elegant with a slight<br />

touch of bitterness in the finish characteristic of the Verdejo variety. It has a big structure that favours its<br />

persistence. [£9.70]<br />

• 7. Bodegas Castelo de Medina, Sauvignon Blanc, 2018, D.O. Rueda, Spain<br />

100% Sauvignon Blanc. 13.5% ABV. Pale straw yellow with golden tones, clean and transparent, giving off<br />

freshness with aromas of tropical fruits (banana, pineapple). In the mouth it is fresh with a good flow. [£9.99]<br />

• 8. Bodegas y Viñedos 3 Ases, Hocicón, 2018, D.O. Ribera del Duero, Spain<br />

100% Tempranillo. 13.5% ABV. Hocicón is a Rosé Wine of hand-picked Tempranillo grapes from our own<br />

vineyards in Ribera del Duero. With cold pre-fermentation maceration in cold and in contact with the skins<br />

during 8 hours. Natural fermentation with indigenous yeast. Matured for 8 months on fine lees in stainless<br />

steel, which contributes to the red fruit tones, unctuosity, roundness and pastry notes. [£5.34]<br />
