Greyfriars Vineyard
Greyfriars is located on the sunny south facing chalk slopes of the Hog’s Back at Puttenham,
just outside Guildford in Surrey. The original vineyard was planted in 1989 and since taking
over in 2010 we have expanded the area under vine to almost 40 acres on two sites focusing
on producing stunning English Sparkling Wine. We have also built a brand-new Winery
containing state of the art winemaking equipment and dug a natural chalk underground cellar
for ageing our wine prior to release.
Our vineyards are predominantly planted with the three classic Champagne varieties;
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. However, we also have small plots of Pinot Gris and
Sauvignon Blanc. We are producing a range of spectacular English Sparkling Wines reflecting
the unique local soil conditions, climate and heritage of the Surrey North Downs. Our
wines have won many prizes in international competitions, including 2 Gold Medals in the
International Wine and Spirit Competition 2018. More recently, our Rose Reserve 2014 won
the English Sparkling Rose Trophy in the 2019 International Wine Challenge.
We have a Cellar Door Shop that is open Tuesday to Saturday all year round and where there
is always open to taste and our entire range is available to buy by the bottle. We also offer
exciting wine tour and tastings events throughout the year. We hope that you will come and
see us so that we can tell you our story and show you our wines.
• 1. Greyfriars Vineyard, Classic Cuvée, 2014, Surrey Hills, England
56% Chardonnay, 22% Pinot Noir, 22% Meunier. 12% ABV. An elegant and complex wine, with layers of citrusy
fruits and a vibrant mineral finish. The tension and ripe citrus fruits of this dry sparkling wine works particularly
well with Thai inspired recipes. The roundness and subtle mouthfeel of the wine is a treat to match with noble
fish and seafood such as gurnard, bass or scallops. [£20]
• 2. Greyfriars Vineyard, Rosé Reserve, 2014, Surrey Hills, England
90% Pinot Noir 10% Meunier. 11.5% ABV. Our IWC 2019 English Sparkling Rose Trophy and Gold Medalwinning
sparkling rosé. Boasts a lovely delicate pink colour with fragrant red berry aromas and a touch of
spice. Fresh and fruity but with a wonderfully rounded and complex palate. Great on its own as an aperitif or
served up with lighter dishes such as smoked salmon canapés. [£21]
• 3. Greyfriars Vineyard, Blanc de Noirs, NV, Surrey Hills, England
60% Pinot Noir 40% Meunier. 11.5% ABV. This is the second exceptional wine in the Greyfriars limited edition
range. Our first ever Blanc de Noirs is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Meunier, picked from our best
plots in 2014 and 2015. The wine has been aged on lees for 30 month in our chalk cellars prior to release. It is
elegant and generous with honeyed apples, red berry fruit flavours and a savoury hint of butter and brioche.
[£21]
• 4. Greyfriars Vineyard, Cuvée Royale, 2015, Surrey Hills, England
50% Chardonnay 50% Pinot Noir. 12% ABV. The first exceptional limited-edition release from our best vineyard
site. Citrus and red apple notes are balanced by a round, elegant palate that offers a lovely hint of biscuit on
the finish. We only made 2400 bottles of this wine and each are individually numbered – it’s a special one.
[£30]
