WOODHAM’S EWAN HYND IN DEBUT DIVISION 1 VICTORY
Burnham League Division 1
Woodham A 4-6 Mapledene B
Burnham League Division 2
Woodham B 7-3 Blackwater A
West Maldon C 6-4 Woodham C
It was a week for noticeable victories for the young talent coming
through the ranks of South Woodham’s table tennis Club. 13 year
old Ewan Hynd was the player of the match for the C team in their
close loss at West Maldon, but Ewan defeated one of the best
players in that division 3-0 and was duly called up for the A team
when a space became available.
Ewan was incredible in his debut making each of his opposition
work very hard – and he even secured one victory with a nail biting
deciding set 13-11 victory. For the B team in Division 2 another
great 13 year old talent was on show - Ben Porter scored two good
victories to help his team to victory.
In addition to Ewan’s one win for the A team in Division 1, Dan
Piggott won 2 singles and was unlucky in his third match to go
down in a tight deciding leg. The final point was racked up by
Cameron Gray on his season debut.
In Division 2 Alan Dadswell completed the scoring for the C team
with a creditable brace of wins to add to Ewan’s 2 wins. The B
team have struggled for a consistent team so far however they
now sit top of Division 2 after 3 rounds courtesy of the 7-3 home
win against Blackwater. Blackwater have the most awkward player
in this division and it was his skill that stopped the B team from
recording an even higher score as he defeated all 3 Woodham
players – but in turn Allan Steel, Eamonn Hall and the
aforementioned Ben Porter won every other match to secure the
points.
