REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
Holy Trinity Church on Sunday 10th November, at 10.45am
In November every year poppy sellers will be seen throughout the country with their trays of poppies, for the 2 weeks prior
to Remembrance Sunday. We will be in the Asda foyer from Saturday 26th October until Saturday 9th November, with
poppies and other merchandise available. We would like to thank Asda for allowing us to collect in the foyer again, and
also the many businesses around the town who also support us.
It is 80 years this year since the start of World War II, and there are those who still remember the war and the effect it had
on their lives. 2019 has also seen the 75th Anniversary of D-Day and many of you will have seen the commemorative events
on the television. We are very proud that one of the members of our Branch is a D-Day Veteran.
Another area of conflict in World War II was the Far East, and the Battle of Kohima also took place in 1944. The Kohima
poem is recited at every Remembrance Service and says “When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrow
we gave our today”, and this is still relevant today.
We should never forget the sacrifices made by so many in two World Wars, and areas around the world where conflict still
exists.
The Poppy Appeal total for the year 1st October 2018 - 30th September 2019, stands at a magnificent £25,424.20, and we
would like to thank everyone for their generosity.
We hope you will continue to support the Poppy Appeal and thereby enable the Royal British Legion to continue their work
in helping our Armed Forces and Veterans who are in need.
Please Note: There is a change of Venue for the Remembrance Service this year. It will be held in Holy Trinity Church
on Sunday 10th November, starting at 10.45am
For Evermore Their
Names Will Live
For evermore their names will live
and timeless are the thanks we give
to those who gave us peace.
Remember those once close and gone,
remember, as our time moves on,
their sacrifice for us
and joys they never shared.
For evermore our debt will grow
and evermore our pledge must show
that we keep freedom safe.
Remember now their gift and say
“Remembered with true pride today”
for the all the peaceful years
in memory. Their memory.
