A Passion For Designing However, while Gina had always been a designer since young, she regarded it more as a hobby during those early years. Subsequently, Gina enrolled in an Industrial Engineering programme at the University of Santo Tomas, the oldest existing university in Asia. “My mother said I needed a serious degree,” Gina shares, “But the passion for designing was always there and I continued just for myself: dressing up, mixing and matching design elements whenever an occasion presents itself.” So how did Gina end up pursuing her passion as her vocation? Most probably, through a series of fortunate events, as well as her own enthusiasm and determination. “After graduating, I took a summer job at the Sheraton Manila hotel and started working just for fun,” says Gina. “Promoted from the F&B section to the Front Desk, I met a lot of interesting people, including a Brit who offered me a job at Trust House in Dubai.” Gina took on the offer, and from there found a job at the InterContinental Hotel Dubai where among the many high-profile guests she had met included Lord Lichfield, famed photographer and a cousin of the Queen. “I was also in charge of taking care of the needs of the InterContinental Worldwide owner whenever he came to visit,” Gina says. During that time, Gina would always go for holidays in England, and it was in London that her passion for fashion was reignited. “I love the old architecture in London, the melting pot of different nationalities and the whole Oxford Street, Selfriges, Harrods, Harvey Nichols scene - the vibrancy 21 JANUARY/FEBRUARY <strong>2020</strong> | TM
