BASILDON HOSPITAL SUPPORTS WORLD STROKE DAY
Staff from Basildon Hospital’s Hyper Acute Stroke unit marked
World Stroke Day recently with a vital refresher study session on
how to spot the signs of a stroke.
More than sixty staff from different clinical teams including
physiotherapists, specialist stroke nurses and speech and language
therapists attended to discuss the importance of identifying the
signs of a stroke early, how to help a stroke patient and how to
educate others on how to prevent a stroke.
A stroke is a serious life
threatening medical condition
that happens when the blood
supply to part of the brain is cut
off. It can happen to anyone at
any time and is the leading
cause of disability worldwide
and the second leading cause
of death. World Stroke Day
sets out to raise awareness of
the prevention and treatment
of this condition and how to
support patients with their
recovery.
Stroke speciality doctor at
Basildon Hospital Dr
Jayakumar Jagadeesan
explained:
“Our study day was an
important event to highlight
the seriousness of this
condition and was an
opportunity to remind our staff
that fast access to treatment
saves lives and improves
recovery. World Stroke Day
brings global attention to the
need for all of us to take action
and prevent our own risk of
stroke.”
