My first high school job
was at a furniture store.
The manager called us
Shleppers. I did not even
know what it was, so I
asked my coworker what
it was. He said be quiet,
that it meant we are good
for nothing. I saw the
pain on his beautiful old
weathered face. "If you
complain you'll get me
fired." I called my dad
and he came and got me
and I created a terrible
scene. In some ways, I am
still outraged by it. But I
often felt sadder for the
older man. Later I read
his obituary, son of a slave
it said. I cried to my dad
when he told me about
the old man's life.

At least I didn't have a
boss who said to me, ‘Kill
it,’ the way that Mayor
Bloomberg is alleged
to have said by Warren.
That will resonate with
all the victims of toxic
male aggression that
many of us have felt.
Bullies that think they
can call people names
and define morality in
an indecent way. In one
way or another all our
lives. We can ignore it
and even pretend it is
something else. But it
stops momentum, at
best and at worst it's like
a knife in the eye. She
knows and she won't let it
go unnoticed.
Remembering a
President that lit The
White House with the
hope of the rainbow
in celebration of the
Supreme Court ruling on
same-sex marriage.
That is how important
your vote is.
