Located in the south of the country,<br />
the Polish Jura is a limestone<br />
playground for sports climbers who can<br />
choose from thousands of routes<br />
leading into deep forest, surrounded by<br />
medieval castles in various states of<br />
repair. For photographer Piotrek Deska,<br />
who grew up on the northern edge of<br />
the area, climbing the Jura was almost<br />
a rite of passage. But it was a pure<br />
landscape image he’d intended to<br />
capture on camera – this lone climber<br />
ascended the Turnia Kukuczki crag<br />
(named after legendary Polish alpinist<br />
Jerzy Kukuczka) at exactly the right<br />
moment to add some action.<br />
