gouache on board under glass, board size: 14’’ x 20’’, est:$1000/1500. Provenance:<br />

Property of a Private Collection, Phoenix, AZ Condition: Visual: Generally good<br />

condition. Taped along the four edges to the front mat.<br />

1142 Karl yens (1868-1945 Laguna Beach, Ca)<br />

“Evening Shadows, Laguna Beach Cal.”, signed and dated in ink lower right: Karl<br />

Yens 1921, titled on the original back mat, monotype on paper under glass, paper size:<br />

9.75’’ x 7.75’’, est:$1000/1500 Condition: Visual: Generally good condition with toning<br />

to the paper. Glued to the original board backing along the upper edge.<br />

1143 alice Blair Thomas (1857-1945 Los angeles, Ca)<br />

“An Old Sycamore in the Grounds of The Outpost, General Otis Place in Hollywood”,<br />

signed and dated lower left: Alice Blair Thomas 1929, signed again and titled verso,<br />

oil on canvas, 27’’ x 43’’, est:$800/1200. Note: Blair painted the present work in the<br />

1920s luxury residential neighborhood ‘’Outpost Estates’’ centered around Outpost<br />

Drive in Hollywood. General Harrison Grey Otis, owner of the Los Angeles Times,<br />

developed the estate and had a clubhouse on the property which he called ‘The<br />

Outpost’. Today the neighborhood remains largely as it was in the 1920s. Provenance:<br />

Private Collection, Los Angeles, CA Condition: Visual: Craquelure throughout with<br />

areas of instability and losses on the left side and in the lower center quadrant. A<br />

1.5” horizontal tear with dots of associated losses in the upper center quadrant. The<br />

painting retains the original frame. Blacklight: A few areas fluoresce on the trees on<br />

the left quadrant but this appears to be in the hand of the artist.<br />

1144 George Bickerstaff (1893-1954 ukiah, Ca)<br />

Lake in a High Sierra landscape, signed lower right: George Bickerstaff, oil on<br />

canvas, 24’’ x 30’’, est:$1000/2000. Provenance: Property from a Private Collection,<br />

California Condition: Visual: Generally good condition with craquelure throughout<br />

and a few tiny spots of paint loss in the lower right quadrant. Blacklight: No evidence<br />

of restoration under blacklight.<br />
