Thank you, Impact 100 PBC forthis truly transformational gift that will puthundreds of struggling young readers on astrong path to learning success.Delray BeachMother of SixSaved fromHomelessnessDuring PandemicShantavia yOung and her childrenAs the COVID-19 crisis led to unprecedentedunemployment, many of thealready vulnerable families served byAchievement Center for Children & Families(ACCF) in Delray Beach have experiencedcritical needs during these difficult times.These families have been facing the unknownof how to sustain their basic needsand manage loss of employment along withsupporting their children’s virtual learningwhile schools remain closed.ACCF’s Family Strengthening Team,led by Berthanie Pierre, pivoted with theimmediate crisis to provide aid includingemergency funding for basic needs,meals through ACCF’s food distributionprogram, help with managing schoolwork,and assisting families in navigatingunemployment claims and securing foodstamps. During this process, the FamilyStrengthening team discovered that threeof their member families were experiencinghomelessness.ACCF utilized community resources andwithin two weeks the program’s Achievementand Financial Navigators were ableto help secure and fund a deposit for affordablehousing for two of the families.The funding was available through privatedonations raised through ACCF’s COVID-19Emergency Relief Funds. A third family hasreceived temporary shelter while the ACCFteam members work with partners in thecommunity to secure affordable housing.Shantavia Young, a Delray Beach motherwith six young children including an infantand two toddlers, was living “place toplace” without a stable home for her family.She visited the ACCF to ask for assistance,and they found and secured an affordablerental home for her family, as well as providedher with diapers and food each Friday,as part of the organization’s weeklyfood distribution.“I am very thankful for the help that theyhave given our family and for the help thatthey will continue to provide,” said Ms.Young. “Since we are in our new home, ourfamily is doing well.”Delray Elks RidersRaise Funds forCharityDelray Beach Elks Lodge #1770 recentlyraised $500 for charity after a recentcurbside pick up dinner held by the ElksRiders.
