Summer has always been for the locals. It’s when we take back
Delray Beach, walk right in to our favorite restaurant, get a
seat during happy hour and just enjoy the Ave at our leisure,
without the bustling and traffic that ensues during “season.” This
year is a bit different. Our restaurants, shops and hotels did not
benefit from a full season and have missed out on revenue they will
never see. Now more than ever, they need you to support them and
help #KeepLocalsAfloat.
A staycation isn’t the right word now, since we have all been staying
- so I encourage you to take a “nearcation” or vacation beyond
your backyard. Far enough away to still feel the benefits of being
on vacation, yet close enough to feel safe. There are some great
discounts to be found. Many of our local hotels are running specials
at 20-30% off already discounted nightly rates.
Ready to get out, but not stay out? Take a walk through the Morikami
and enjoy the Gardens, stop by the Cornell Museum, learn
about the History of Delray Beach at the Delray Beach Historical
Society. Do you have little ones? Go to the Sandoway Discovery Center
for an animal feeding or schedule a time at the Delray Beach
Children’s Garden. Read the community’s Covid-19 stories in the
“Unsung” exhibit at the Spady Museum. You can even cruise with
Delray Yacht Cruises or play a round of golf at Putt’n Around.
Not quite ready to get out? Schedule a virtual vacation for yourself
and unplug for a long weekend. Order pickup from your favorite
restaurant, online shop from your favorite boutique and get outside
and enjoy the fresh air!
Supporting local doesn’t just mean shops and restaurants. Spring
would have been fundraising season for many of our nonprofits.
Spend some time with your loved ones and learn more about our
70+ nonprofit members at the Delray Chamber of Commerce and
find one who’s mission really speaks to you. Whether you are able
to donate your time, talent or treasure, each of our nonprofits could
use your help!
Whatever you decide to do this July to support local, we encourage
you to use #KeepLocalsAfloat and post about your experience
on social media! Take a few minutes and write a Google or Facebook
review.
