CENTURY AND ANOTHER SMALL-SWORD, CIRCA 1800<br />

the first with hollow-triangular blade etched with scrolling<br />

foliage over the forte (worn, expertly repaired) gilt-brass<br />

hilt engraved with trophies-of-<strong>arms</strong> and foliage including<br />

a pair of straight quillons with flattened globular<br />

terminals, oval dish-guard decorated on both sides,<br />

knuckle-guard, urn-shaped pommel and a pair of plain<br />

with tapering blade of flattened-hexagonal section, etched<br />

and gilt with scrolls and trophies over the forte, and the<br />

ricasso inscribed ‘Berlin’, brass hilt including boatshellguard<br />

with roped moulded brim, knuckle-guard en suite<br />

and the pommel decorated with a scallop on each side,<br />

and the grip bound with twisted brass wire<br />
