16TH/17TH CENTURY<br />
comprising pot with heavy hemispherical skull formed in<br />
two pieces joined medially by a riveted overlap, fitted at<br />
the brow with a flat obtusely-pointed peak pierced at its<br />
rear with a slot to accommodate a missing nasal-bar, and<br />
fitted at the nape with a slightly down-turned matching<br />
neck-guard, the sides of the skull and the fronts and rears<br />
of the peak and neck-guard pierced with small circular<br />
holes for the attachment of a missing fabric covering,<br />
symmetrical pauldrons with later-scalloped front and rear<br />
edges, each of nine lames (partly disarticulated, the last<br />
four associated), the third and largest fitted at the front<br />
with a later radially-fluted circular besague, tubular upper<br />
cannon of a three-piece vambrace surmounted by the<br />
lowest lame of a turner, tassets each of six lames (partly<br />
disarticulated), the first (associated) pierced with a later<br />
suspension-hole, and the last fitted with a later stud and<br />
turning-pin for the attachment of extensions, and later left<br />
poleyn of four lames, the third bearing a small side-wing,<br />
and the first surmounted by the lowest lame of a long<br />
tasset, all elements except the pot decorated at their main<br />
edges with inward turns, partly roped or notched, and at<br />
their subsidiary edges with triple incised lines (all<br />
surfaces extensively oxidised)<br />

ARMOUR, EARLY 17TH CENTURY<br />
comprising symmetrical pauldrons with later-scalloped<br />
front and rear edges, each of five lames (partly<br />
disarticulated) connected by a turner of two lames<br />
(originally three) to an articulated vambrace formed of a<br />
tubular upper cannon, winged bracelet couter of three<br />
lames and two-piece tubular lower cannon, and two<br />
gauntlets (not a pair, the right later) each formed of a<br />
flared and obtusely-pointed tubular cuff, the left formed in<br />
one piece with a join at the inside, the right with a<br />
separate inner plate, six and four metacarpal-plates<br />
respectively, a shaped knuckle-plate and incomplete<br />
scaled finger-defences (mainly detached), the elements<br />
variously decorated with plain inward turns and incised<br />
lines (showing cracks, perforations and patched repairs<br />
throughout; the surfaces extensively oxidised)<br />
