PISTOLS BY WHITNEY, CORK, CIRCA 1800<br />

with octagonal sighted barrels inscribed ‘Cork’ and fitted<br />

with back-sights at the breeches, breech tangs decorated<br />

with flowers, engraved stepped bevelled locks fitted with<br />

rollers (the sears inoperative), figured walnut full stocks<br />

(one fore-end chipped), flat-sided butts, engraved brass<br />

mounts comprising trigger-guards decorated with a<br />

bouquet on the bow and with pineapple finials (one bent),<br />

and a pair of ramrod-pipes and one retaining its original<br />

ramrod with steel worm (the other replaced)<br />

DUBLIN, CIRCA 1820<br />

with tapering sighted barrel signed on the flat and fitted<br />

with back-sight at the breech (pitted), border-engraved<br />

breech tang, signed bevelled stepped lock fitted with<br />

rainproof pan, roller and engraved pierced cock (top-jaw<br />

and screw replaced), figured walnut full stock, chequered<br />

butt fitted with a small silver plaque engraved with an<br />

expanded flowerhead, steel trigger-guard with engraved<br />

pineapple finial, and silver escutcheon engraved with the<br />

owner’s crest and initials ‘R. M.’ (later ramrod)<br />
