top and stamped with a mark on one side, and a pair of<br />

A GERMAN HALBERD, LATE 16TH/EARLY 17TH CENTURY<br />

with tapering central spike of diamond section formed<br />

with a pair of very small basal lugs, acutely pointed<br />

crescentic head formed with an additional pronounced<br />

spike at the top and the bottom, rear spike formed en<br />

suite and stamped with a mark, four hearts arranged in a<br />

circle, tapering faceted socket, and a pair of straps, on a<br />

later wooden haft<br />

This halberd is clearly from the same group as lot 115.<br />

Two others, formerly in the <strong>armour</strong>y of the Dukes of<br />

Brunswick, were included in Sotheby’s sale of the Works<br />

of Art from the Royal House of Hanover, 2005 lots 254<br />

and 255.<br />
